    hey all,

I have a g1s-b2, which is a great laptop with great performance. However I've been running into some troubles with harddisk sector errors with blue screen of death showin up so i did my disk checkup with bad sector fix to get rid of it. So far so good, but... there is this noise, which is sorta like a really really thin screech sound which isn't too loud enough to drive me insane, but surely noticeable in a dead quiet or moderately quiet room. It almost sounds like a portion of my hdd is too close to the ceiling or something while spinning, and making a very thin screeching sound for prolong period of time. Sometimes for minutes.

also, I dont know if you noticed but my g1s-b2 isn't even built properly i dont think.... the right side of my laptop is a bit higher than my left... and you can clearly see the incline looking from the level of the keyboard and my spacebar is bent upwards... same with my OLED portion just above the keyboard... it is weird because i can see the plastic bending to accomodate the upward slopingness of it...

anyone who experiences the same symptoms as any one of the above, let me know if i should send it in because i just bought it a month and a half ago

actually according to the thread here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=209250&highlight=noise

the noise source seems to be the CPU duo core since it does stutter every time I scroll the browser... but the poster hasn't told him what the solution for it is, or if there is even one.

So i guess my only problem is now the laptop build... since there aren't any problems for operating anything i've been putting off contacting them... i just wanna know if its worth it sending it in and losing my laptop for a month because im in school and near exam time. Maybe I should send it in after exams? The crooked build of the laptop does piss me off sometimes looking at it...

My G2S has a similar screech when under any load, it also has the generic hdd scratch-ish sounds. If you have a decent mic, you can upload a sound clip, but unless it is super loud, I bet it is just the norm. I thought similarly on my first acer laptop, but when I got to handle a similar one after acer "fixed" it, it was the same. Now after coming in contact with numerous rigs, same noise.

look up cpu noise to find solutions. the main one is to use rmclock and run hlt on command.

thanks ejl, I just did some vigorous searching on google and ran into rmclock myself, so I just finished stopping the damn noise by unchecking the box enable popup mode :D

EJL: Is that hlt on command an option to underclock? or is it another setting?

it's not an underclocking method. it is under the management option. basically, what it does is run a command before the computer can enter one of the deep sleep states......it's going in and out of those deeper sleep states that causes the buzzing noise. however, it does affect battery life 20 minutes or so....

Thank you for clarifying, since I am always plugged in, might as well try it. I think my next feat as well will be undervolting. Since it cuts down on heat and not performance if done conservatively, may be a +, but I will watch out to stay in a safe zone.
