I could not be more pleased with the service from Asus. Not only was my G1s repaired (bad video card) they replaced the palm rest because of dents I caused. They upgraded my Vista to 64 bit also with new restore disks. My motherboard was replaced with a G1sn with the 9500 gs. Now the important stuff....performance is at least the same as before in 3Dmark 05 and alittle better in 06. I games like crysis slightly better. The big difference is temps...about 10-12 degrees cooler. Idles the same 60ish under heavy gaming session 80 to 90 only reaching almost 90 after hours of gaming. Overclocking is much better than the 8600...almost 5000 in 3D 06.....with 500 core and 500 mem........ also fan is much quieter and comes on high much less

Are you having the same problem as the other guy where the cpu cover was not able to seat properly because of the bigger cpu/gpu cooler?

    Wooooow superb ! xD
I'm gone RMA my G1S next week.. there is something wrong with my 8600M GT.. And I wasn't sure if I should push Asus to upgrade my G1S with the G1Sn motherboard or not.. Because I've read the 9500M GS is a little weaker than the 8600M GT BUT I also knew the temperatures were lower !
Now thanks to this story I know what to choose lol :p

But have you asked Asus to take a G1Sn motherboard and not a G1S motherboard?

cpu cover has plenty of clearance and looks like the latest games play smoother like PURE than the 8600 but about the same on old games like FEAR

But your from the USA right? I'm afraid that Asus NL (Netherlands) might not do the same as Asus USA.. (Replace the G1S motherboard for a G1Sn motherboard). Isn't this true?

If I'm not gone ask them to change the motherboard to the G1Sn one, they will just put an original G1S motherboard in it I guess..

I would think if you have a video issue the motherboard will need to be replaced and they most likely will not use the defective 8600 gt motherboard so new motherboard means new 9500 gs also. remember video card is made into the MB

Mmm yeah, I hope so ! I had to many problems with my 8600M GT.. And "normal" gaming isn't even possible with the 8600M GT, to temperature goes above 95°C and at that temperature the GPU starts to stutter.. So then you have to open the CPU cover, undervolt, use a notebook cooler, such things to let the temp. drop a few degrees so you can play without stuttering.. With the 9500M GS that part will be over.. :p

Policies may be different in different countries (if it is indeed a policy -- I'm afraid we can't infer one from just two cases...)

sgtmatt1, I suggest you ask explicitly (and strongly -- but politely --, with arguments) for the G1Sn MB if you wish to get it.

Perhaps also mention the cases in the US.

For those with the G1S -----> G1Sn switch, does your expresscard dummy card fit properly?

I just got my G1S back with a G1Sn mobo...and i'm assuming it's the original dummy card from the G1S. But now, that dummy card doesn't stay in place at all. I could tilt the computer and off it goes. I just called Asus back and hopefully they can send me the correct dummy card.

I doubt a new dummy card will solve the issue, I think they are (nearly) identical. I think that perhaps the internal layout is a bit different, or maybe simply they assembled some internal parts 1mm off...

But, even if it is doubtful if it'll help, a new dummy is definitely worth a try.

I found out the problem....there were a couple of tension tabs that were not fully extended within the slot which is why the dummy card was not being held.

Another problem though... I only got the drivers CD for the G1Sn, no restore disk. As such, I am unable to restore the OS since the original restore disk only works for a G1S. Time to send an email to asus support.

Yep, ask for a G1Sn restore disk.

It looks like only people in the USA got the G1Sn replacement motherboard.. Haven't seen such story of someone in Europe.

    Good for you in Europe.

At least you have a more powerfull GC DDR3 than 9500m GS DDR2...!

My 3DMark06 with 8600m GT with standard driver no OC is about 3900 but now with 9500m GS, it is just lil' bit more than 3600 :(

I am very happy I logged onto these forums for the first time since my purchase of my G1S over a year ago to read this thread!

My notebook was sent back due to overheating issues this past June.

They replaced the motherboard and updated the bios , changed the battery and sent it back to me, disregarding the note I made about my 8600mgt having stuttering/overheating issues during gameplay ---

Since i got my computer back, I have been experiencing BSOD's for the first time since purchase on a weekly basis. The tech said it was a Hardware issue.. lol.. ya think? LOL

Now MAYbe, they will replace everything and check it out thoroughly before shipping it back.
