Thank you Mujtaba for the suggestion. I am looking at wprime running at the moment alongside cpuZ which is showing a clock speed of 2.2 ghz. wprime speed test completed in 38 seconds.
    CPU temp is 53 degrees.
GPU temps are 67 deg idle, up to 88 at peak while running loops of 3dmark 05.

    Normal?

    HDD fully defragged.

    So to summarise:

CPU throttling - is this normal in High Performance mode? If not could be a fault.
Could be a RAM issue, upgrade to 3gb may help.
Could be driver issue, various VGA drivers suggested.

Thank you to everyone for your patience and assistance, I am impressed with this forum - but not with my G1s.

Update: tech support reply received from Asus - who have written in response to my service request to say:

"It looks like there is no problem, because the notebook is delivered with 1gb of memory and a shared graphics card"

Astounding!! And not even factually correct, as it comes with 2gb and a 256mb 8600, albeit with Turbocache. Where do they get these support goons?

To anyone thinking about getting the G1s- think carefully, you may be better waiting until the model has a better BIOS, better drivers and you may even want to buy from a manufacturer that provides proper support!!

The CPU temp is normal (pretty good when compared to many laptops in fact)
And I think we have found the problem.
Go to the wPrime, and select "Run as Administrator" and then post the results.
(It should be around the 35 seconds - Running the program as administrator will make the program utilize the both cores)
I think this will solve the WoW problem too.

Actually Mujtaba I found the "additional settings" part of wPrime and set it to utilise both cores, getting a result of about 36 seconds. Updated my post but guess you were already posting as I did that...

Use the "Run as Administrator" on the WoW.

Sorry, no improvement. Using 156.13 drivers now, seemed a little smoother then stutter started up again.

Run as admin had no discernable effect. Seems like CPU is running at 2.2 ghz when running WoW - running in a window with cpuZ shows 2.2 ghz constantly.

Still no nearer a solution here, will have to try the uninstall and reinstall of WoW suggested by _bare, and see if upgrade to 3gb helps.

Hi ! I also face some issues, mainly with battlefield 2.
Actually, I have problems when I play online : the game stutters a lot, the frame rate isn't steady. Consequently, the game is unplayable.

1280x1024, high settings, around 90 fps.
It works fine in solo mode, but online the frame rate goes from 30 fps to 100 fps.
Moreover, my ping never exceeds 80ms (so as the server) thus this is not an internet connection related issue.

Can you help me ? Thanks a lot.

I have the same problem with Rb6Vegas. My official answer from Ubisoft was that it was not intended for vista, The next chapter in 2009 will be completly vista compliant, They are working to reduce the issues, no plan a present time......lol, good stuff

    Latest from Asus techsupport:

"When you are in the game, could you please press down the Control,Alt and the Delete button at the same time.

When you do so you can see which programs are running simultaneously.
In my opinion that is what is causing the problem that you are having : because there are too many applications working at the same time there is not enough memory left for the game. They use too much CPU and memory space."

There is nothing running in the background (for example Asus bloatware!) and graphics still stutter. Will see what they suggest next.........

I have noticed that some of you are using Everest. Everest is not meant for Vista and has been show to cause bugs outside of the program itself. You should try uninstalling Everest. I doubt this will help you with WoW but I will keep you system healthier. ;)

I understand you are completly un-satisfied with your G1s, and with great reason. However that being said The g1s is an awsome notebook, possibly the best 15.4 you can get, just browse the forums here. well over 90 percent of us are more than satisfied, If I were you just quit while your ahead and send it back and get a new one. Just for GP, where did you buy your lappy from?

Mine was bought online from E-Buyer.com, one of the UK's largest e-tailers. I think you're right though, it will have to go back ,I may get better luck with a replacement.

I think the G1s is the best spec for a 15.4" laptop, which is why I went for it, and truly expected the performance that went with the spec. Glad to hear that most users get that, gives me hope for when the RMA is completed.

Thanks all who have tried to help.

Update here - adding extra RAM has helped a LOT - thought it worth trying before RMA. Not perfect in WoW but 100% better, so hopefully those with stuttering and 2gb RAM might consider a RAM upgrade. Running on 3gb now, will test some more games and keep fingers crossed...

Sorry empapy - BF2 is not one of my games - but I am interested to know what happens as from what I've read the issues people have had with BF2 are similar to those I have with WoW - annoying stuttering from time to time.

Most other games have run OK - Stalker, NWN2, both run quite well. LOTRO has some of the same issues as WoW....

I belive that you have the same probs that I had with my G2S.

    I solved it like this:

    Booted Vista
Uninstalled Display Adapter from device manager
Installed latest PM965 chipset drivers from Intel
    rebooted
Detected SVGA driver - installed it
Installed latest NVidia driver from ASUS
    rebooted

All probs gone after that - Have played Quake 4 for hours

    Good luck!

Wonder if WoW would somehow eat more TC memory off the GPU than some other game, leaving less than enough memory to run smoothly...

That must be really annoying. I hate when games do that, really ruins your impression of the hardware as well. Have you tried installing xp instead? (Bit of a drastic step I know) Was just thinking that maybe vista is clogging up your memory perhaps.

I'm having the same issue. Is there any update from the original poster on this?

I guess I will try what larsidden suggested when I get home, but I'm curious if this fixed the original poster's issue.

uninstall the sound card drivers/software. reboot and use the drivers vista defaults to. i was having same hiccup issues in wow and it turned out to be sound related.

another side note- make sure asus data security manager has been removed along with most of the other bloatware. in fact a clean vista install (if you have a disc) is the way to go in my opinion. too much bloatware on the recovery disc imo.

Do you use any custom UI's? Some of them are loaded with keyloggers T_T... and when I had a keylogger due to a bad sumbit on cursegaming.com, my computer froze up for 1 second every couple of minutes while I was playing.

Oh, another question too. ASUS offers two BIOS versions for install. One for Vista 32bit and one for ALL OS. Is there a difference between the two?

As far as my issue I'm either going to install XP or do a clean install of Vista which will require me buying the OS I guess. If I went that route I guess I would go with Vista Ultimate 64bit so that it will see all 4GB of my ram.

Ok thx. I tried to uninstall Realtek high def audio drivers but it didn't change anything regarding bf2 performance.

Moreover, I have now an other problem, there are black areas everywhere on the maps.

Hmmm - nice idea, thanks. I tried it but still get the jitters. Worse still , with the default MS drivers installed, microphone functionality disappears and VOIP programs (Skype, Live Messenger) can't hear me talking.

Working up courage to do a complete recovery install to see if that helps.

Realtek also has new drivers on their website for that sound card. Have you done a clean install of vista or are you using the ASUS recovery disc?

Yes , tried the 1.72's a while back (think it was me who posted the news about them here actually ;) ) but lost the realtek control panel with them, and had same sound issues as outlined above. So using 1.71's at the moment. Also using latest Intel Matrix Storage Manager drivers (new ones just released)

Not done the reinstall yet and only have the recovery media. Working up to it if all else fails...

I got my WoW stuttering fixed with selecting 'Rollback driver' from Device Manager / Sound Card. Now the driver is labeled as "High Definition Audio Device" (dated 21/06/2006) and works as well as before otherwise :)

For anyone with issues like these, I would generally suggest a complete format and reinstall with only the latest drivers and software you need. Forget about all the Asus software, almost all of it is useless.
