Brought this up in the owners thread but wanted to see if anyone else had ideas on why the Windows Experience Index rating for my processor is 4.4. Power settings are on max performance and the computer is plugged in. The other scores match what was posted in the G1s review but the processor is a disappointing 4.4. Asus tech didn't have any great ideas so I thought I would check with this community before I requested a swap. Any ideas? Thanks

Will having a 5 make you sleep better at night?
That's kinda weird, as other WEI scores were:
I don't think you should be bothered by it much... -
-
Huh? Why send back a notebook because of some abstract performance index computed in an obscure fashion by Windows? I don't even think they would agree to the swap unless they are forced by the terms.
To get a good idea of the performance, try a benchmark like SuperPI and see how your time compares with other Core 2 Duos/Santa Rosa's. If they do not match, check to see if Power4Gear is not causing problems (i.e. stop power4gear, and try again just with Intel SpeedStep=. -
Does it display your cpu properly? Like, is it identifying your CPU as a Intel Core 2 Duo at the right speed?
Has there been any dual-core INF fix from windows for the G1s? -
-
EDIT: Can you stop Power4Gear without uninstalling? -
Sure. Just right click, and exit, or smth similar
-
4.4 is definitely off though. I have a Core Duo T2400 and I get 4.7 =P
-
G1S - Wei Score 4.8
A8JS Wei Score 4.7 w/ T7600 + 2GB memory + 100G SATA 7200 RPM -
I suspect some software issue is at the root of this problem... but I miight be wrong
-
-
The WEI scores are just to get you to upgrade. The way your final score = the lowest score is complete bull****.
-
Just for closure, I ran SuperPi and got 24 seconds for 1mm, which is in line with what I saw on notebookcheck. 3dfxmark06 was 3715 which is close to what others have reported.
-
How about with and without power 4 gear? Any difference?
-
Roanth, your WEI of 4.4 tells us almost nothing about your problem. What you should mention instead is what component received a score of 4.4 (since the lowest component score would be your WEI).
If the 4.4 is because of your memory or harddrive, which I suspect, then that can tell us a whole lot about why your G1S is different from others. -
-
-
Ok. Well if the CPU behaves correctly for a T7500 in the *real* CPU benchmarks, I don't believe you should care about a number computed in some obscure, unclear way in some Windows app, which is really only a marketing tool in the hands of Microsoft.
So I'd stop worrying about it... -
Agreed. Thanks
-
I recently received my G1S from excaliberpc and the processor WEI is also 4.4 with the graphics at 5.9. Havent yet tried other benchmarks on it but obviously yours is not unique in this as my scores are identical to yours.
-
Yup, I just got my G1s also, and it's processor WEI is 4.4 also. All the others are the same.
EDIT: Got mine from ExcaliberPC also. -
hmm, has anyone else received one from excaliberpc? do they all say 4.4? anyone got one elsewhere have a higher rating? beginning to wonder if they received a bad batch of g1s's
-
I bought mine from ExcaliberPC and also got a 4.4 for the processor.
-
I ran some other benchmarks:
SuperPi 1.5
1M = 22.5sec
2M = 55 sec
I also have a desktop PC with a E6600 C2D running at 2.7Ghz it gets 5.6 on the vista processor rating and gets with super pi
1M = 19.1sec
2M = 45.6 sec
so the g1s seems to benchmark properly here -
I just called Asus tech support. I first asked if they had an official WEI rating for the G1S processor, but they didn't have that offhand. I then asked if all the G1S's shipped so far were identical in hardware, and he said yes.
That being said, I mentioned the 4.4 processor score that several people around this forum have been obtaining. The rep said that it could probably be caused by Vista not being fully up to date with the Santa Rosa architecture. Consequently, he suggested going to Intel.com and downloading an "INF" driver for the processor (I'm not entirely sure what that is). He also said that Asus doesn't go by the WEI for performance of their machines.
I haven't downloaded anything yet, since I just got off the phone with the rep. -
does anybody have a g1s themselves that has a WEI higher then 4.4 or was that 5.1 only on that preproduction review?
-
hmm.... im getting from excaliber, ill check when i get mine, but it shouldn't be a big deal, if it's a 2.2 its a 2.2
-
My G1s i got from excaliber as well and im getting a 4.4 on the processor rating.
-
hmmm, whats the WEI rating for the g1?
-
Come on people, stop worrying about the WEI and start worrying (or rather, not worrying
) about the real-life performance of your notebooks.
Don't worry, your CPU is just fine. You are going to use your CPU at less than 50% load for about 99% of its lifetime. If you don't play games with the notebook, lower the first figure to 10%. -
-
ExcaliberPC sucks anyway. Next time, buy from a reseller that actually knows something about notebooks rather than just tries to lowball prices, not that this has anything to do with the performance of the G1S units they are selling. All the G1S units are the same
Anyhow, we are getting 5.1 for the Processor WEI score. -
I don't see how it could be just from excaliber unless they got a bad batch from Asus. They don't even open them before they ship them out, do they?
-
i got my g1s from gentech and got the same WEI processor score but in my superpi tests I got 23 seconds for 1m digits, so its all good
-
-
Well, my old rusty G1 scores 4.9 in the cpu test.. oh, I guess that didn't make you feel any better either?
-
thats the thing, there has to be something wrong for the variation to occur, i dont care if the CPU is working properly, thats just means something else isn't
-
reginald your unit from gentech scored 4.4 also? so some people have g1s's in their hands that score 5.1? what could the difference be if the they all score very similar on super pi? this is just weird, anyone find an updated inf file from intel? laptop seems to be running completely fine and very fast otherwise. my only other issue is that the ac adapter seems to get very hot while running the laptop. I just want to get to the bottom of this issue, I'm convinced it must be some software setting or driver issue. CPU-z identifies the processor properly as well, says its a revision E1 T7500
-
ok i think i solved the problem, I went to intel's download site downloaded the newest inf for the 965m and installed it, reran the wei program and now the processor rates at 5.1 with a composite score of 4.8, so scores fit with the others rating, guess some of the g1s shipped with the newer inf and some an older one, guess im happy now, anyone else think the ac adapter runs a tab hot?
-
yes as said before i got mine from excaliberpc. but i got rid of some useless programs and shut off some startup programs and retested my system and now it says the processor is at 5.1 so its all good.
-
ok now that everything is ok, great
-
-
So what update do I need to obtain 5.1 rating. On intels site what is the g1s's chipset?
-
Another update and some closure for all I hope. I decided to contact Asus tech just to see what they had to say. When I explained the problem the tech suggested I send the laptop in to be checked. Since it was free overnight shipping both ways I thought what the hell. They took a look at it and informed me the reason I was getting 4.4 is because of Speed Step (a Vista feature I think) lowering performance settings even when the laptop is plugged in. They said once you start a program that requires CPU crunching, Speed Step deactivates and the WEI score goes up to 5.1. They said they had tested and confirmed this. Just got it back and tested it myself. Ran WEI right after startup when processor was still chugging and got 5.1. I was told Speed Step cannot be disabled and wondered if others knew a way around this. All's well that ends well.
-
When you guys are running the WEI what are you power settings at? If you're G1S is set to Battery Save mode then it will be lower then if it was set to High Performance.
My G1S has an overall score of 4.8 becasue that's what my ram and hard drive scroes are, My cpu score is 5.1. -
I got mine up from 4.4 to 4.8 simply by clicking on the "Update My Score". It runs some CPU (and other) tests, to check the performance.
-
-
Glad I could help, it has been a common problem
-
SpeedStep is there to clock your CPU down when it's not needed. It prevents it from heating up and wearing down more than necessary. It is useful both on battery and on AC. Do not force the CPU to full speed, it is not useful.
