    Hey all,

I have a G1p and love it. Been using it for a couple months now and really enjoying it. I bought it strictly for it's screen quality reputation and I couldn't be happier with it.

My husband was waiting for the DX10 since he plays 1st person shooters. He wanted a G1s but yesterday while reading about them, I saw this thread:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=131044
and others that make me realize that the G1s has inferior screens and brightness levels when compared with the G1p.

Screen quality is really important to both of us. He told me he'd just as soon have a G2s if it has a better, less grainy (I suspect people are talking about sparkle not grain, really, like an oil sheen) screen.

The G2s is pretty new but so far the reviews on the screen look good. I'm gonna go ahead and order a G2s unless someone has a G2s with a bad screen or has a reason that the G1s would be better. It's used exclusively at home sitting on a cushion on his lap. Poor guy is using a 4 year old Toshiba at the moment while I sit next to him with my G1 and I don't even game.

The grainy issue might be a BIOS only problem.
Some models like the W3J had the graininess problem but it turned out to be a BIOS related issue and was fixed by an upgraded BIOS.

yeah, they talked about that but it seems more like it's the same oily look that you get on white screens with anti-reflective coatings. It's pretty common on LG and Samsung screens which is what people are getting now. The G1p has a CMO screeen.

Bios graininess is usually seen more on grays than on whites.

I really fear whether they have physically reduced the screen quality to lower the cost. Since they did this with the A8Jp.

The G2S screen really is great - just make sure that you are getting the 1920x1200 resolution version! You should have no problem in the US as I am pretty sure that they all come with the WUXGA there - but I saw some posts yesterday mentioning that the G2S sold in some countries in Europe has the same screen as the G2P - 1440 x 900 (WXGA+) - not nearly as good!

I have a G1S, and although I don't have any other laptops to compare to (unless you count a 3 year old HP..?), the screen is BEAUTIFUL. I would suspect the G2S', with a higher resolution, will be even more gorgeous, but if there's anything at all wrong with the G1S' - I ain't seeing it!

    MrWhereItsAt,

Do you know what screen you have? (Look in device manager under the display). Just wondering if you have the CMO.

    Well

The g2s screen is the only screen with its exact spec in the world atm. It is made by auo but its a wuxga dual lamp screen. ( it might be in something like a new alienware by now not sure)

It will be significantly brighter than your g1p screen. It wouldnt have the same viewing angle.

The g1s screen has the same spec as the g1p one so its very similar in quality its just the samsung version.

Hi stamar, I don't really trust the "same specs" thing. It's the anti-reflective coating that gives the sparkly look I hate that is on so many Samsung screens. The specs don't tell you whether that will be a problem or not.

Since there several are several people here (on the thread I linked above) with G1s screen problems (and I never saw people with G1p screen problems) and everyone seems to love the dual lamp G2s-A1, I went ahead and ordered it from gentech.

BTW, on the G1p, I typically use it at one notch below the brightest for most uses, and turn it up to the top notch for graphics work. I expect my husband will appreciate the brightness of the G2s, if only to see in the dark corners of HL2, etc. :)
