I'm considering buying this laptop, either at best buy or online. But I read mixed reviews on battery life. Could some of you owners tell me the actual battery life you get with yours? And could you list the pros and cons. Thanks.

2 to 2.5 hours depending on brightness, wifi and usage.

G1S A1 comes with a nice backpack and a mouse and a 200mhz speed increase (2.2ghz as opposed to 2.0ghz in the X1).

The benefit of buying the X1 is you can get best buy's product replacement plan.

What is interesting about the Best Buy site for the x1 is that they show in the specifications that the processor is 2.0GHz. But yet in the description of the product they clearly state it uses a T7500. T7500 processor only comes in 2.2GHz speed. So which is it?

The other interesting thing in the Best Buy ad is they show System Memory as not expandable past the 2GB thats installed. That would be a bummer since I'm planning on upgrading to 4GB (running 64-bit linux)

I don't think you can trust Best Buy specs since it contradicts itself.

I hear the Best Buy G1s has lower end specs? I think that 2.0Ghz for Best Buy is correct, but you can use 4 gigs you just need a 64 bit OS.

How much does the A1 cost?

I picked up my X1 and best buy a few weeks ago for $1599.99. I already have a bag and a mouse and the jump from 2.0ghz to 2.2ghz isn't going to show any noticeable effect. Yes, the X1 does have the DDR3 version of the 8600. Plus if you get it from best buy you can be on it the same day =D .

As far as battery life I get 2.5 hours consistently during class on power saving mode.

And yes, the speakers are terrible. Other than that, this computer has given me no problems whatsoever and has offered me great performance for games and everyday tasks.

I don't really know what I think about my G1S anymore.

The right side of the keyboard is a quarter of an inch or more below the rest of the keyboard; even a replacement kb from Asus didn't remedy the problem, meaning it is a crooked chassis.

    It gets hot. Very hot.

The battery life is not as bad as I was expecting. I can get 2:40 easily, with brightness one notch from lowest and wifi on. (browsing internet, listening to music, typing crap)

I really don't need a laptop like this though... probably going to end up selling it this winter in favor of a desktop and an EEE.
