I upgraded mine as well and I heard the same annoying high pitch sound. I ended up using the flash utility in the BIOS to downgrade back to 205.

I don't hear anything. I've upgraded to 300 and I let my CPU idle. Didn't hear any whine. By the way, teenagers are supposed to be able to hear higher frequencies. So, I know my hearing is good :)

Well when you Listen carefully theres a high pitch whine. I could hear it through the Base and keyboard of the While. After downgrading to 205 again, the whine was gone. Thats what i recommend just doing.

maybe u think too hard that with v300 bios u hear a whine and with v205 bios u dont, so when u downgraded it doesnt have the whining sound!! Its the power of the mind!!..lol..im not sure why, im using v300 and i dont hear anything im 15 only..have good hearing too according to what metril said "I don't hear anything. I've upgraded to 300 and I let my CPU idle. Didn't hear any whine. By the way, teenagers are supposed to be able to hear higher frequencies. So, I know my hearing is good ."

And indeed, i had that sound after upgrading to the v300 BIOS...
Should i downgrade back to v205 or just stay with it ? (I usual got a headset on, so than i don't hear it ;))

I have Vista Ultimate 32bit and I hear the whine too on my G1S-B1.
    Downgrade back to 205.

    I beg to say that I'm not a teenager :) I have 25 years old ;)

    Regards,

I would downgrade back to 205 if I were you guys. Obviously something is making that sound, and it has to be one of the electrical components since it's not the fan. I'm sure whatever that electrical component is, it isn't designed to make that sound! just my 2 cents.

I didn't notice any thing different about how my G1S sounds after I updated to v300.

Perhaps I need to listen closer, is it supposed to be a high pitched whine while the CPU is idle?

If the whine is something like high pitch wii-wii-wii-wii when the charger is connected to G1S, it might be the power supply. If the sound changes when you unplug the charger, it is definitely related to the power supply.

Its actually a high pitched contineous whine (more like a wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii) that seems to be from the CPU and was not present in v205. When running on bat., indeed the whine is much less noticeable.

V300 seems like a useless upgrade anyway (unless ur planning on upgrading the cpu) and downgrading to the earlier version seems to resolve the problem. Hope they come out with one the resolves the cpu throttle issue while charging as well (starting to loose hope though).

BIOS 300 solved my Linux/XP 4GB RAM problems. So, if someone has more than 2GB of RAM installed, they should definitely upgrade to 300. Okay, you can use 3GB and 4GB with XP, if you disable certain PCI peripherals, but Linux has problems with older BIOS.
