There seems to be some confusion around the forums as to whether or not the upcoming G1s will have PCMCIA or Expresscard for the expansion slot. I was just wondering if anyone could confirm either way. According to this site, it has an Expresscard, so this is very hopeful.

That site seems to be inconsistent - says ExpressCard in the specs at the bottom, but in the main description it mentions having a PCMCIA slot.

Possibly that just means the descriptive text is just copied over from the old G1 description (which seems possible).

Yeah, that's just what I figured. Most reseller sites tend to just have copy-pasted the old G1 info.

I have no concrete proof, but I'm still leaning on Express Card Slot, with two main reasons why. One, PCMCIA is being phased out, there is no logical reason to continue using it, and two, the G1s seems to have a small price increase of $50~, which may be ASUS covering the costs of R&D + manufacturing a new modified chassis for the A7.

Confirmed from the marketing sample in the UK, the new G1S has a PC Express card slot.

If you ask the resellers who have their prices up now it is about 50-100.

Not counting the new processor and potential GPU of course, that results in the other $100-$150~.

    Where?

MilestonePC.com for example sells the G1 for $1799 and the G1S for $1999. It seems like a similar range at most other stores.

cori helped me out with what I meant. I was trying to say that taking away the price of a new processor and GPU (the main money parts), there was still some discrepancy in the price, which I calculated as 50-100, and probably accounts in some ratio for the Santa Rosa platform it self, Expresscard and eSATA
