I know this question has been asked before but I have yet to see an actual fix for the issue.

Some users with a factory install job do not seem to have the issues or complain about it.

I'm running Vista x64 with the latest "bioshock" nvidia drivers and it seems that the g1s crashes/fails to come out of standby or hibernate. Status lights are flashing properly it seems but there's no display! Latest BIOS (204) and doesn't seem to be any other problems I'm running into except for this one which drains my battery life like crazy when on battery.

I'm pretty minimal on apps installed, only major things running in background are Direct Console and the realtek sound driver applet.

I know i'm not the only one with this issue!

I've tried about 3 different nvidia driver versions. They have all had the same issue. I have'nt tried the stock asus driver however (there isn't one for x64)

Its a GPU driver issue... I don't have x64 so I can't tell you what driver version to look for...but just go back to the stock ones?

Im assuming your seeing the bioshock logo then the screen goes black and stays there?

If thats the case here is the fix(es):

You need not only the newest video card drivers wich are 163.44 to play bishock properly but you need the latest directx. The Augest release. I recomend the redistributable version because the web update fails for me on vistax64 (on my desktop)

This update is needed because bioshock uses DX10 and has some issues without the update, You may as well update your sound card drives to the newest one and OpenAL too while your at it since the game uses all of those.

If you really want to go all out you need the newest runtimes and .net framework both have new versions out.

However just the DirectX update should fix you up.

A work around that I recomend is just to force use of DirectX 9.0 isntaed beacue the game will look exactly the same but preform better. To do that:

Right click the icon that lauches the game and in the target box add "-dx9" without the quotes. The game will run in DX9 instead of DX10 and should avoid the black screen problem.

This is assuming you had the same problem I had with the black screen, and not a standby problem wich its not, its a display problem.

To test that you can also just alt+control+del and it should exit the black screen game and open the menu for the task manager.

Thats what I thought, but I see how being frozen at a black screen with the computer on could be mistaken as a sleep problem so I wanted to cover all the basis. Plus I know somebody will have those issues so I just answered them without them having to ask :p

Well so far i ve counted a s96s, a c90s owner and me (also a c90s owner) with the same problem. ive tried various drivers and right now im on stock drivers and the problem persist. basically i just turn off all sleep/hibernate options.

Its not a crash though its simply the display that wont turn on again, i know because after it resumes im able to log on via the finger print reader and i get the ok sound.

im on windows ultimate 32 bits btw

Really stupid question, but I think it's better to ask it.

Have you tried disabling/enabling the LCD when this problem occurs? Namely, press Fn+F7 ("toggle LCD") twice. Otherwise, closing and opening the lid.

    Ive tried:

FN+F7 and closing and opening lid
also tried 5 different drivers and two clean install (due to other issues though)
can not install vista hotfixes though i get a meesage saying that they are not for my system (vista ultimate 32 bits)

everytime i get the same thing so i just disable it entirely.

I 've been having the exact same problem under Windows XP with latest Bios, etc. After having tried everything (including Lids, LCD on/off etc.) I also thought that this happens because of the Nvidia drivers, but I tried the case under Vista 32bit using the latest "Bioshock" drivers (and the stock drivers as well) with no problem whatsoever. So I was wondering, could this problem be caused by something other than the graphics drivers? Perhaps incompatible ATK (ACPI) drivers? Then again, there is only one version for XP (and I assume for Vista 64 as well), so this may be silly to suggest...but then again, it's not as if Asus never had problems with drivers...

I 'm afraid there is no straight answer for this problem. Almost everyone with an identical configuration can still have different standby problems. I'm not very crazy about Vista, but seeing that the standby/hibernation function doesn't work under XP, I don't have much of a choice, as almost everyone...

Try the following that is from one of my other posts. I had a standby/hibernation problem during one of my installs.

From one of my previous posts:

This is what worked best for me.

    1. Install the ATK ACPI driver and VGA driver from the CD first. Only install these two.

    2. Restart.

    3. Install all sound drivers that you need. For the G1S, get the Realtek drivers fromt he realtek website.

    4. Restart.

    5. Install the eSATA, Direct Console, Chkmail, and Bios Flash Utility.

    6. Restart.

    7. Install the AFGENERIC or whatever it's called, ATK Hotkey, Power 4 Gear, and ATK Media.

    8. Restart.

    9. Install the wireless lan drivers.

    10. Restart.

    11. Restart once more.

It took me a long while to find the most optimum order for installing the drivers because some of them are horribly coded and are very sensitive to the order in which they are installed. I have a Turtle Beach Audio Advantage SRM (USB Sound Card) thatI use to hook up multiple speakers. In order to get my sound function keys to work with the usb sound card, I had to install the Turtle Beach drivers before I stalled the Realtek drivers, but after the ACPI and VGA drivers.

I have not had problems and everything works. I also use the ATKOSD2 for the cool graphics for the function keys. Install ATKOSD2 when you install the ATK Hotkeys.

    Side note:

In task manager, there is an ATKOSD.exe process and an ATKOSD2 process. I do not believe both are needed. The ATKOSD2 is for the cool graphics for function keys and the ATKOSD is the one installed with the ATK Hotkeys. I did a little experiment where I went to the ATK Hotkey folder, found the ATKOSD.exe and moved it to desktop. The ATKOSD.exe did not start up, but ATKOSD2 did and my function keys all still worked. Also, I had removed an unnecessary process.

Some people do say that the ATKOSD.exe process is connected with the ACPI driver.

I always wanted to know what the AFGENERIC does... Unfortunately there are no real descriptions in the ASUS site...
