    Hi all, new here.

My G1s broke down within the 2 year warranty period. After having it for 8 weeks, they email me saying they do not have the replacement part in stock, and offering me a G50Vt-X1 as a replacement. Now this laptop is newer, but I have not kept up with any computer stuff lately so I do not know if this is a good deal. The G50 it seems has been phazed out too, replaced by the G51. And the price point of the G50 is MUCH lower than what I paid originally for my G1s.

So I guess I am asking, what are your opinions? Should I take the deal, or ask for a G51, which is a current model and still significantly cheaper than what I originally paid for the G1. Or any other options you may think I have. I appreciate it,

    JV

Yeah man, that is a huge upgrade as it is. The G50VT-X1 is all around a better system than the G1S. Regardless of what you originally paid for the G1S, the G50VT is a better machine. I'd be so happy to get an offer for a trade like that.

OK thanks, that is exactly what I wanted to hear. It just amazes me how quickly computers progress and prices change for a given amount of performance.

You seem to be knowledgeable, are there any problems with the G50 I should be aware of?

    Thanks a bunch

I don't know of any, but that doesn't mean there aren't any.
I do know that you're coming off of an 8600M GT, which is a known faulty chip, to a 9800M GS. Not only is it more powerful and more power efficient, it's not faulty.

Hey, JV. What exactly caused your computer to break down? Was it the GPU, or did the system just go totally belly up?

I got nothing at all when turning it on, other than the blue ASUS text in the miniature screen display. Reading through the forum more, it appears that a number of other people have had the same problem. I hope they get a good solution as well.

I guess different country different service quality.

I'm in the US, so I sent it wherever they go in the US. I got another email confirming that they will be shipping out the replacement in 5 or so business days. I'd try pressing the service people to replace your broken G1s. Good luck.

How much did you pay for the g1s, if I may ask?

The G51 goes for about 1k while the G71 goes for about $1.1k. Both can play all modern games at high settings.
