So i've tried installing some drivers other than 163.44 but so far most of them (including 169.04) just doesn't work as well as the 163.44 on my G1s.
Most of them have this weird slowdown problem where it would play fast, become slow then speed up in intervals of around once a second.

It happens during games and it also happens during 3dmark06.

The framerate didn't really decrease but it slowed down and sped up. Any idea why?

EDIT: more information, during 3dmark06 the intervals happened during firefly forest

If it only happens in a benchmark, leave it be. But it seems it happens during games as well. I suggest revert to the latest problem-free driver install and keep that one...

Try to make a clean install of these drivers:
    -uninstall the actual driver
    -reboot
-clean with ccleaner & windows cleaner
-take the last drivers on laptopvideo2go
    -install your new driver
    -then reboot

    And it'll be ok.

In fact you've got the same problem with you drivers , like someone who overclock up to the limit...

Done that, that's how I install my drivers.
I didn't overclock anything, what do you mean?

Edit: wait, there was this one time a few months ago where I OC'd my GPU, and I did it badly, it basically went haywire for a few moments, because I quickly turned off my computer to prevent damage to it. Could this be it?

Try installing the latest ones. The ones you have have been known to cause some lag within Vista.... The newest version should fix that.

In the worst case you've maybe damaged your GPU with this bad overclock...
If it's that you should return your laptop to asus, and wait a long time to see it again... :(
    I hope, it's simply a driver problem...

Uuuhh... I still suggest reverting back to the drivers that worked well for you?
