First off, has anyone here picked up Bioshock for their G1s yet? What kind of FPS are you getting? This will determine whether or not I pick it up on th 360 or not.

Search Tag G1s Recovery Error G1s Recovery DVD Recovery Installation Incomplete

Now then, for the recovery warning. I have seen a few posts now regarding people trying to do a recovery from XP and getting the "Windows cannot complete the installation. Please restart the installation if you want Windows on this computer" error using their recovery disk.

The issue lies in the driver CD. You are prompted after the initial Recovery DVD is at 100% to insert the drivers CD.

I don't know if there are a batch of defective driver cds that came out or whether or not you simply have to restore from XP for this to occur but for whatever reason this driver CD is corrupted for many G1S owners should you try to recover.

My suggestion is to NOT put the driver cd in when prompted to. Restart your damn computer and let Vista do all the work. Once that is done you can install whatever drivers are missing (And I assure you, there aren't many missing at all).

This also gives you the added benefit of a VERY clean Installation of Vista.

Yep, did that from the start since I never got the option of choosing which applications I want to install. Just restarted after getting the prompt to insert driver cd and installed drivers/programs myself from the Asus website. Am having issues with Intel Turbo Memory though, for which I will most likely create a new thread for.

There is a turbo memory driver on the CD that works quite fine.

When doing the recovery using DVD, does it create two partitions like the computer had when it arrived out of the box on day one? I want two partitions, but I want first partition to be 10gigs with XP on it for work...and second partition to be rest with Vista on it (for myself).

I will be creating a new thread for this issue this weekend because I don't want to hijack this thread, but basically I have tried the drivers and no luck :(

I consider 1024 x768 @ medium settings to be just barely playable on the G1s and Bioshock

Is it really that different from the demo? I tried the demo at the native 1440x1050 and high for most things, and it was perfectly good. I noticed it could have been a little smoother at times, but definitely playable.

Use FRAPS and post framerates, otherwise it turns into a subjective non-believer argument such as this.

Ok, first of all, you people need to get rid of those ****ty base Asus drivers. You are running a 4:3 Resolution on a Widescreen LCD.

    http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=14562

The above drivers are running Bioshock, for me, at 1280x720 on all high settings with DX10 shaders at around 20-40 FPS. It is VERY playable. The only time it slows down is when there are a ton of particle effects on screen.

Voodoo, it has the option to do two partitions but you cannot customize the size.

Do these drivers work well with other games too?
Are they better than say.. the 163.11s for other games?

Drivers have nothing to do with resolution. He could run a widescreen resolution if he wants. Also, he's running a HIGHER resolution than you, so I don't know what your point is. You're getting all hung up when you're clueless.

Truthfully I haven't noticed a decrease in any other games but I only play EQ2/CS:S and LOTRO sometimes.

I'm clueless? The base Asus drivers cause you to only have TWO available Widescreen resolutions: 1680x1050, the native, and 1280x720, or 720p.

This is incredibly restrictive as it leaves out other 16:10/16:9 rezzes such as 1440x900 (1440x1050 is a 4:3 resolution, not 16:9, as you'll see in the following link), 1600x900, 1366x768, 1365x768, 1280x800 etc etc etc.

Resolution has EVERYTHING to do with Drivers if the INF in the drivers dictate only two damn Widescreen resolutions. I mean for christs sake you can open up your display and SEE the difference in width on that nice little picture between 1680x1050 and 1440x1050.

Here's an education for you smartass:

http://www.gen-x-pc.com/lcd3.htm <---Typical Widescreen Resolutions that LCDs can Output.

    http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped...ndards2.png/750px-Vector_Video_Standards2.png

The bottom picture shows regular CRT Aspect ratio resolutions, 4:3. The top shows WXGA+ Resolutions, or Widescreen.

Reading comprehension may not be something you can handle so I'm not going to get down on you too much but perhaps you should try reading the ****ing thread before coming down and trying to make someone else look like an idiot.

Most people with the G1S using stock drivers don't even realize how badly they are getting the shaft resolution wise. Hence why I posted it.

This is what just happened now as I was reinstalling Vista on a new 250gb drive. Which drivers do you have to reinstall by hand?

Except that was never the issue. You went off on him for running 1440x1050 for some reason. It is clearly his choice to use a fullscreen resolution. He did not mention what drivers he was using. You just assumed that he was using stock drivers and was limited to certain resolutions.

I had this when doing a recovery on my V1S yesterday. The problem seems to be that after you put the driver disk in, after a little while it pops up saying it needs to restart, which you naturally click to do now. Don't - you need to either completely leave it alone, or click restart later (I did the latter). The laptop isn't 'done' on the recover until it turns itself off - until this point, you must leave it alone or you end up with this problem. It takes some considerable time to finish after you put in the driver disk.

I did the Chipset drivers then reinstalled. Once that was in I did Nvidia driver from L2V2go, the Realtek Ethernet drivers, intel wifi, Realtek sound drivers (Most updated ones as the ones on the cd are fairly old), installed Direct Console and Power 4 Gear. Oh, and the modem driver and camera software simply because I don't like looking at yellow objects in device manager.

The synaptics driver really isn't needed but I installed it anyway.

Aye that is exactly what happened to me. It actually takes less time for the end user to simply install the drivers from disk than it is to go through all that garbage. It's not a very intuitive process.

Well everything installed smoothly on the 250gb. It's much faster than before, not sure if this is from the new drive or the clean installation but I'm very happy.

There are 2 webcam drivers on the g1s support page, which did you install?
