    How much ram do you have in total? If 1gb then that's pretty good. If you have 2 then that's a crap load.

    But Vista uses alot of memory, it's fine.

    why do you have ad-aware running if you aren't scanning?

    Yes it is normal. Vista pre-allocates unallocated RAM for often-used applications (E.g. it will preload Word into an unallocated piece of RAM). If Word is not started, and the RAM becomes necessary, it is instantly released so there is no performance hit. --- at least that's the story as I understand it without deep research :).

    As long as your computer doesn't do a lot of swapping (HDD accesses during memory-intensive tasks) you're fine.

    That being said, Vista feels kinda tight in 1GB RAM (if you do only have 1GB). In any case, check out my optimization guide in my signature for how you can tweak it to run more smoothly.

    alright well i saw this thread and im having the same problem and ive got 2gb of ram, about a week ago it would only say about 20% but now its 50-58%, any ideas?

    Like E.B.E said, it's fine. Vista hoards memory, and releases it as you need it.
