G1s-x1 @ Bb - $1,399.99

Hi all,

I've been looking at the G1S-X1 and the G1S-A1. I went to BB tonight after work here in FL and was pleasantly surprised to see that the X1 is going for $1,399.99 (clearance)! Their website still says $1,599.99.

From reading on here, the only diff between the X1 and the A1 is a slightly slower processor, 1 year less warranty, and it doesn't come with the mouse and backpack right?

I figure with tax the X1 should be around $1,496.93 compared to the A1 which I find online for 1,667.43 from powernotebooks.com.

I'm in a real dilemma here...can anyone provide me more information on the Best Buy service plans, like how much for accidental breakage? At the same time, I don't like the fact that the G1S doesn't have the fingerprint reader...is there a similar notebook that does have the fingerprint reader? How does an Asus notebook compare to say Lenovo?

Asus G1S-A1 for $1459.99 at zipzoomfly with free shipping. I don't think they charge tax (at least they didn't when my bro ordered his video card from them).

Lenovo is a great brand as well (take a peek at T61p). You may also want to consider looking at Sager 2090 or Compal IFL90 (both are exact same machines).

 

But if he really wants an asus....

And I'd actually go with the deal listed in voodoo's link. It seems pretty solid and you can't go wrong with a G1 for 1450$. I got a C90s for 1500$ so yeah I'm wondering just how good my own deal was....

Too bad you were a few days late ... Asus had a $100 rebate offer for G1s + G2s that ended on Halloween. I would not recommend BB since you gotta pay tax, and you miss out on the goodies. Right now ASUS is offering Steelsound speakers instead of the rebate.

Also keep in mind that Asus batteries don't last too long, so you would be better off getting a free replacement thru your 2 yr ASUS warranty.

About BB service plans...
I got the service plan for Circuit City for my Vaio, and I've sent it 2 times to repair, and they didn't fix the problem, so I had to go thru the trouble of sending it back the 3rd time. They sent it to the same computer servicing contractor twice, and the third time to a diffferent contractor. At this moment I'm still waiting for my VAIO. It's possible you might have similar issues with BB service plan service.

The only painless thing with the CC plan was the replacement battery (non-original) was received promptly. Now I just need my computer back....

 

It was my understanding that the battery is not covered as part of the new extended global warranty for the system, but that it has the standard 1 year coverage that Asus has always offered for their batteries.

I can't find confirmation of this, however, on reading the promos for the Asus 360 coverage - battery coverage is probably buried in the fine print somewhere.....
