Hi, I am looking to upgrade my G2S's memory but I recall reading some time ago that installing 4 gigs of ram makes the computer stutter and get all buggy. Would updating the bios solve that? And would it be worth it just getting 3 gigs of ram, even though it's not in dual channel? Also could someone tell me what ram works best with it?

    Thanks.

This has been answered many times but, here is the deal
If you are running a 32 bit OS this machine works the best with
3 gig of ram, put a 2 gig ddr2 667 A-Data or Trancend have both worked
well for me ck on Neweeg for best price. Open the bottom slot take
out the 1 gig put in the 2 gig (power off remove batt first ;>) )
Reboot and its all good. The Santa Rosa chipset seems to still use
the first 2 gigs of ram it finds in dual channel.
Have fun, and look at the posts from Ken @ gentech for a ton of great info

Thanks for the info. I installed a 2 gig stick on the underside of the laptop and it showed 3 gigs of ram when i rebooted. BUT my windows index score dropped to 4.0 for RAM, where previously it was 4.8. What's up with that?

I used Buffalo 2 gig stick pc2-5300 D2N667-2G just like it recommended off of the buffalo website.

The Windows Experience Index, as a measurement tool for performance, is CRAP.

Your system is going to run better and smoother with 3GB than 2GB. The score drop is probably because the RAM is now in asymmetric dual channel, which will have *no* discernible impact on system performance as dual channel in notebooks provides a negligible bump in performance; you're going to get a much bigger bump with the extra gig of RAM by comparison.

Try not to stress over MS' unfortunate attempt at system performance prediction, and enjoy your newly upgraded system :).

Heh, ok that's good to know, thanks. I noticed some people on the forum mention testing their memory to make sure it's good. How would I go about doing that?

If your notebook is booting and running normally, then the installed RAM is fine; no need to spend the time trying to run benchmarks to assess function.
