Alright guys, I know someone here is resourceful enough to help me.

As I understand it, the procedure to install XP in place of Vista involves slipstreaming sata drivers with nlite, then creating a boot disk. I've downloaded some sata drivers posted in previous threads concerning this, and selected the proper driver to slipstream (intel 82801hem/hbm intel ich8m)..

Unfortunately when I boot the XP install disk, it tells me it can't find the drivers.. What am I missing??

Vista is not working, and I'm going to be pretty sore if I can't get XP running on this beast..

First questions. What's not working with Vista?

Second questions. Did you press F6 during the XP install to load the OEM drivers?

Alternatively you can configure your SATA drive to be recognized as IDE from the BIOS settings. This way, the Windows setup won't ask you to install a SATA driver during the setup process, so you won't need to slipstream the SATA driver. Once the initial setup completes and reboots your computer, you can set your drive back to SATA.

I finally managed to get XP to install! But.. The video drivers wont work.

"The nvidia setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware. Setup will now exit."

Using various xp 32 bit drivers for the 8600m gt. Any advice?

Err.. No. Was I supposed to? Hows that work, exactly? Should I reinstall windows?

I also considered slipstreaming the whole driver set into the disk, but I don't know what that would've done. XP is working great, minus my lack of video support..!

Thats where I am stuck. I downloaded some drivers, and the modified inf file. Replaced the inf, but the nvidia install still tells me i am using a card that is unrecognized.

I'm stumped. My browser hardly works so its making researching new solutions difficult.. Guess I can (slowly) troll the laptopvideo2go forums for support, in addition to asking here.

You extracted the drivers into a directory first right? Then replaced the inf, then ran setup.exe?

    Which version did you download?

Downloaded 165.01 and 165.15 to start with.. I believe they are the two most recent. Extracted them both into folders, replaced the .inf, ran setup.. both times the installer 'cannot detect any drivers compatible with my current hardware'.

Spent a good 15 hours between vista, xp 64, and now xp 32. Vista is unstable and no drivers seem to work with either version of XP.

Same message. Was going to try the 'have disk' method - and then i realized windows isn't even detecting a VGA controller.

Anyone seen this before? Is it time to give asus a call?

That just seems strange. How are you getting a display if no display adapter is detected.

Did you have the same issue with Nvidia drivers in Vista?

Very good question. It barely works.. it takes forever to scroll down a webpage or even a txt document.

The card registered in the device manager fine in vista. If vista had worked properly at all I wouldn't be in this mess right now.. ugh!

Maybe you have a defective G2S. I had to reinstall Vista a few times on my G2S before getting it to working properly. The first 2-3 installs would give me a BSOD on every reboot.

Have you updated any of the drivers since installing XP? I would imagine you'll need to at least update the P965 chipset drivers before trying to update the Nvidia drivers.

I installed xp, attempted to install graphics drivers.. no luck. Installed as many of the others as would work (found a driver pack), chipset included. Many reboots, and still no detection of any VGA adapter. Guess I'm going to have to call asus and possibly send it in for repairs.

Pretty ridiculous, considering what I paid for the thing. Fortunately, I've heard good things about asus tech support, so I don't dread the call. Wish me luck!
