Hi,
I just bought a nice Asus G2S.
I installed the last bios (0204), and added a bios password ("User password" with "no access", not "system password", or something like that).
Now, when I turn on my laptop, the bios asks for my password, I type it, and... Wrong password ! I'm sure at 150%, the password I set is the good one...
I tried several tricks (with or without caps, Alt or Fn...), and nothing works !
Funny (or stupid !) thing, using the PWR button (under the touchpad), no password is needed, and Vista can be lauched without any problem. Using the main power button, same stupid "Enter password" message...
I called Asus hotline, the guy gave me 2 generic passwords (didn't work, of course), and told me to ask for a RMA...
I'm really really sure of my password, if you don't believe me, try !

You tried entering NO PASSWORD? Just pressing ENTER.
-
If that doesn't work then try taking out the battery on the mobo.
-
-
this sucks i´d never risk to mess with the mobo, plus its an Asus issue by what u told
-
I don't know about much about notebooks but on desktops, you can flash/reset the CMOS.
-
This seems like a BIOS problem.. Maybe it can be corrected by updating with the latest BIOS..
If not, and nothin else work then go for the RMA without tampering around much with the motherboard.. -
Looks like similar problem with F3SV, but the F3SV already got the BIOS fix:

I'll ask Asus tomorrow to see if they have BIOS fix for G2S tomorrow. -
If you can boot Vista, just flash a new (or the same) BIOS that will most likely resolve the issue (literally by removing it
).
-
But still, I'll call Asus tomorrow to see if it's a bug. -
The pb is :
I can boot Vista, I can force Winflash to flash the same bios (0204), but to do this, Winflash needs to reboot the computer (to flash under Dos), and I'm stuck, because the password is asked before the flash utility can start...
The thing I need is a "real" Windows flash utility... -
Yeah... that sucks.
Seems you have to RMA. I wouldn't advise opening the notebook searching for the BIOS battery and possibly removing, you might void the warranty in the process.
So, here's my current list of the Brilliant ASUS BIOS Bugs (TM):
* 30 August ACPI BSOD bug on the V6J: kills the notebook on 30 August each year (solved in September 2006)
* Wrong BIOS (V1J) with Vista installation on the V1Jp: kills the notebook for good. Needs RMA (unsolved?)
* G2S BIOS password bug: renders BIOS unusable (unresolved)
G2S bios password bug ?!!
