Run a game, alt+tab out of it and check if it's still at 1x.
Also, try put your computer into the 'High Performance' power plan.

    Hmm....
    Asus G2S-A1 (2.2GHz Core 2 Duo T7500, nVidia GeForce 8600M GT 256MB) 3,814

    Something appears to be affected...

Have you reinstalled windows, or updated any drivers?

as for reinstalling windows I haven't since october
and it was working fine then,
if it was windows problem it wouldn't show up in ubuntu..
but it show up in ubuntu so..I guess it's hardware problem

also I changed driver few hour ago to test it
    I got it from laptopvideo2go
also when I look at SI.xml form 3dmark06 system info
it also says PCI ex link is running at x1

    driver version is 179.36

It is probably stuck at x1 as you think.

Yeah, I forgot that you wrote it was happening in ubuntu as well.

Why don't you contact Asus again and tell them that your computer gets 2604 in 3dmark06 while it's supposed to get around 3814.

Just wondering, what resolution/settings did you test at?

Could you download HWMonitor and check your GPU's temperature?

Btw, have you ever read any of these articles?

    Do you still have warranty?
