I am currently unable to install Vista Ultimate on my G2S-A1: the install stops at "Completing Installation" for several hours then the screen goes black. The cursor is still visible and will move but nothing else happens. If I reboot it gets stuck at the loading bar forever. Any assistance would be appreciated.

I'm not certain, especially since I'm still relying on ASUS's terrible recovery DVD.. But your problem may be missing SATA drivers from the Vista DVD. Hopefully someone can confirm (or reject) whether or not Vista includes the correct SATA drivers for our laptop.

If nobody does fast enough.. I would try sticking them on a USB drive (or a CD/DVD), and retrying the install with those drivers included.

    Hi there

I did a clean Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit install (not via asus recovery media) on my G2S 4 days after i got it delivered with Ultimate 32 bit. No problem at all. Of course i had to manually install certain drivers after the installation was complete but i found them all on either asus, nvidia or intel`s site. Perhaps your media is faulty? Have your tried to disable the IR/Bluetooth during the install (via the switch on the side)

I've tried your suggestions but the problem has not changed. I tried the Intel Vista drivers and nothing changes, except if I try the Intel ahci controller driver which locks up the Vista installer when I attempt to load it. I read on another forum that someone who had a similar problem (on a different laptop) that when he disabled ahci under SATA in his BIOS it fixed the problem but I can't find any similar setting in the G2S BIOS. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

i'm still having this problem but with my G1s-a1.. i tryied loading the drivers before installing like "load driver>selection intel matrix storage.. (SATA) from asus>ok" and then hang at completing installation... if i do this with those from the cd that came from my laptop all partition disappear like there were no hdd... vista64 worked but i dont want 64.. Apparently the 32-bit vista installer has issues with certain SATA drives/controllers so I gave up and ended up going with 64-bit vista. The only issue is the touchpad light and on/off hot key doesn't work (apparently an issue with the 64-bit ALPS touchpad driver).
