Hey fellow Asus laptop owners, i got mine yesterday and it is quite an intimidating looking machine...i opted for XP and so far i had to download few drivers, adjust the screen size/font but i can't seem to get Webcam working properly (image is upside down) and is there any other was to scroll on the touchpad besides pressing both buttons at the same time?

Webcam issue really goes on my nerves, i might not even use it but when u pay $2,000 for something, i'd like it to work.

    Thanks

For scroll, check the Synaptics website for the drivers.

As for the camera, that I can't help with, perhaps check ASUS's support forums, there are great information about XP on G1s there.

Isn't there an option in the driver/webcam utility to flip the image vertically?

Unfortunately no...i tried to go to setup and change default settings (00010001.01 to 00010001.00 but didnt help).

How do other people scroll on G2S or G1S?

I'm not sure what you mean by the binary code...

I read somewhere that those numbers (by "horizontal" line) can be changed to invert the image, well, didnt help.

Major disappiontment from GenTech PC (where i bought my G2S-A1), what has happened is that i uninstalled camera driver and tried to install it again, but now, camera is not even listed in Device MAnager, when i tried to instal the driver it aborted because "it is for XP", well i have XP...GenTech said XP does not support this camera (which is weird xince i did have it just it was upside down), well now i dont have it at all and GenTech is like "sorry man".

Well, I bet there's nothing wrong with the hardware. It sounds more like a driver (software) issue. GentechPC is not responsible of what you decide to install on your PC.

Either go back to Vista and be happy or try to use the driver pack mentioned on the following thread.

Got the webcam working, yes i uninstalled the driver and installed a new one and now its good. However i do think that GenTech PC should have a better response than "sorry man", i bought the machine from them, they delivered it to me with inverted image, they stated the cam doesnt work with XP plus there were several more drivers missing and none of Asus utilities on it...and by the way all CD's i got were for Vista which i dont have, so either you support XP or you dont (next time you go to a car dealership, it is not their problem if the car is a lemon, its the factory right?). If i knew that getting XP on Asus would be such a hassle i would go with Lenovo...dont be just a third party pass through entity, be a serious business.

Well, if that's the case, then I think you are right GentechPC needs to improve their customer support.

Next time try to escalate the problem to some supervisor.

The good thing is that you managed to fix it in the end. :)

    Cheers for you!
