My ASUS G2S-B2 is taking FOREVER to install software packages on DVD's. It always has. The DVD player works fine for movies, reading data, etc. But when it comes time to install a large software package, such as a game or ms office professional, it takes a very long time, 1 hour plus.

I've checked the resource monitor and none of my resources are above 50%, with most hanging around 0% because I'm not doing anything else at the time. I can't figure out how to see at what speed the DVD drive is working, though.

    Any ideas?

Do you have any Nero software installed? I know that some of its packages include settings to put the drive into quiet mode or reduce its speed, etc. This does sound weird...are you all updated with SP1, drivers, defrag, check disk? Simple things that may be the culprit.

Also, the installer may require a large number of small files, which may account for the lower speeds (as opposed to continuously reading a video file, for instance).
