Other reviewers were able to get pretty good crysis frames out of the G2SG-A1, something like almost 25 on high at resolutions like 1280x800 but what is this? Notebookcheck reviewed it and is only get ~25 frames on medium at 1024x768??
Scroll down to gaming benchmarks:

Anyone? I really need to know about this because I'm considering G2SG-A1.
-
I have G1S-B1, which is using 8600GT, I get 25-30fps average on 1024x768 (almost all settings to high except postprocessing), considering G2SG-A1 uses 8700GT you would get at least 10fps more than me
-
Ya so wtf is wrong with those benchmarks then? Why are they so low? Predator are your shaders and shadow levels at high?
-
Don't consider G2Sg. If you can wait a bit, you should consider G70 instead.
As for Crysis's performance, I'll take a look at their review a bit. -
PS: I also think you should wait, if you are not in a rush that is. -
The problem with the G70 is that its massive. Its bigger than the XPS in terms of thickness and much heavier than the G2SG. Also, obviously there is an issue of price. If its a few 100 more thats ok but if its 3000+ its probably out of my price range. I'm probably going to buy by the end of June.
-
From rumors G70 should be somewhere in the range of 1500USD~2000USD. Also, G70 is not much heavier than G2S.
-
1500-2000 would make it as expensive as the G2SG-A1 if it was at the high end. That seems a bit low to me because if that was the case they would have to drop the g2sg-a1 price significantly. 2500-3000 seems more likely.
"Looking to its general features we can find an Intel 965 chipset with 45nm Core 2 Duo processors, concretely our test sample is equipped with the T9500 at 2.6GHz with SSE4.1, 4GB of DDR2 800 Memory, 2 200GB and 7200rpm hard disks signed by Seagate and in a RAID 0 system and an SLI system built with 2 8700GT graphic cards with 512MB each one in MXM format. " Ya I'm pretty sure $1500-$2000 is impossible.
Also do you know how heavy it is? The G2 is 9.6 lbs. Also the G2 is 4.6 cm while the G70 is a massive 6 cm thick according to hispazone. Maybe a cm and a half is worth the sacrifice though because of the power. I wonder what the battery life is like. -
Judging from the specification, I would say around 2000USD.
But what do I know? I'm just a n00b -
This also worries me: "it is too big, even its charger of 9.5A at 19v is vast and too heavy. But this doesn’t end here because we can’t call it a notebook. It runs out of its 9 cell battery in 50 minutes of use.". Hopefully they were using the notebook under full load and getting 50 mins and NOT power savings.. because if they were using power savings thats really not practical for me. I want power but I also need basic office usage while mobile.
-
I'm sure the "50min" figure was obtained when doing intensive gaming.

Countdown to G70 in like an hour and a half.
http://event.asus.com/2008/nb/g70/index.htm -
Excited?
-
Well the countdown is done and now the flash video just keeps looping... ?
-
There's 26 more minute before the count down finishes on my side. (CA)
-
Damn it what was this even a countdown to? I hate when sites have countdowns and then nothing happens when the clock is finished.
-
Viper you said the G70 doesn't weight much more... but you didn't say how much it weighs... do you know?
-
Ah the press release says its 4.8 kg, so 10.6 pounds (a pound heavier than G2S) which is not that bad. I think now it comes down to price and battery life. I also just noticed the press release says its 4.9 cm not 6 cm like hispazone is reporting in which case it is only 0.3 cm thicker than G2S which is much better! Maybe hispazone measured a different way or got a early model that doesn't reflect the final.
-
-
Whooaaaaaa holdddd on. You have handled the G70?????? Where? At Cebit?? Also what did you think about the thickness versus the G2S and specifically how your hands rested on the keypad? Hispazone said it was uncomfortable because the keypad was so high.
-
I would say the contrary about keypad. I believe G70 is more comfortable to use than G2, although both of them should be very similar. I've played Crysis on there, and I'm really surprised at its comfort level.
-
Interesting. Any idea when its coming out?
-
Probably in the late Q2 / Early Q3 time frame.
-
3K pricemark for G70 sounds right
-
I hope not.. maybe Asus will explode into the gaming market with an already heavily reduced price for its new model. Maybe? :O
-
Viper do you or anyone know what the blue buttons (and dpad) on the left side of the keyboard do?
G2SG-A1 benchmarks and questions... (bad crysis framerate?)
