Well it was a long known problem that on vista at least, the stock synaptics drivers were a cause of keyboard lag/dropped keys etc etc.

The general consensus and remedy to the problem was the removal of the touchpad driver.

Given that this problem is so old, has anybody determined a solution/workaround that DOESN'T require the removal of the touchpad drivers?

I believe a combo of a newer driver and a BIOS update resolved the issue for most users.

I believe I've tried that but the issue stuck, but this 'newer driver' i have might not be the right one. Could somebody provide a link? Do I use the one found on the ASUS site? or the one straight from Synaptics

Have you also updated your BIOS to the latest version?

I don't remember which driver worked, you could try both the ASUS-released driver and the Synaptics-released driver.

Yeah I have updated the bios to the latest version... which I believe is the May version. Right now I'm running the Synaptics generics driver and I'm experienced a few dropped keys, not as much as before. but still dropped keys here and there.

The BIOS and new ATK drivers fix the keys issue, the only 'lag' left after that is due to the above-mentioned registry key. Read the thread.

Edit: Since you went offline here are all my posts that are relevant to your problem, in chronological order. Good luck.

Again, the final solution for most people seems to be the original post I linked to above. I hope you try it at least.
