I hibernate, I wake it up, my NIC is gone with the wind (I open up network config and the actual card doesn't show up), nowhere to be found. WLAN is still there. Anyone have a clue what it could be or how to fix it?![]()
It doesn't happen every time, but more than 50% of the time at least.

No one?
Is it even a hardware problem or do you think it's software/driver related?
I'm running Vista 64 and drivers off the dvd except for graphics for what it's worth. -
I've had this happen before.

Just had this problem start today. Tried restarting multiple times, but can't get the Ethernet port to show up. Any solutions out there?

LAN driver update (if possible) / ATK driver update / Windows updates.
Also you could check if the network is working under a Live Linux CD (e.g., Knoppix) to isolate a hardware vs. software problem. -
Turned out to be a hardware problem, but not with the notebook, luckily.
Went to the Asus forums, and one person there mentioned that the NIC adapter would disappear from the device manager if the laptop was not currently hooked up to a network (not sure if this is a bug, or by design). Anyway, it seems the Ethernet cable in my hotel room is bad because when I plugged it into a different network, everything worked fine and I could see the adapter in the device manager, and as soon as I unplugged the network cable, the adapter was removed from the device manager again.
So, in the end, it seems like the fix for this is simply to connect to a wired LAN, and make sure you're using a good cable. Thanks for the suggestion, though.
