I installed Vista Ultimate on my G50 and when I set Enhanced in the Bios I'm getting BOSD. The Sata drivers should be in the installation disc by default so I don't know what could be causing this problem. Please help..

You've already installed Vista Ultimate and then enabling AHCI in the BIOS ?

I installed Vista Ultimate in Compatibility Mode in the Bios. But because of speed issues I am trying to set it to Enhanced mode - and that is the problem with BSOD.

I screwed up. You're a gem. Since I have you on the phone, I'm also trying to install win XP on the second hard drive. I slipped the Sata drivers in there, but I also can't set it in the Bios to Enhanced. How would I cure this problem?

So, you installed XP slipstream with the AHCI driver, but didn't change to enhanced in the BIOS ?

Can you upload a screenshot of device manager > IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers > ??

No, updating won't help. I need to know if AHCI is currently enabled in XP or not ?

I have Vista now working fine. I created an Image and it recognized my hard drives. On one hard drive I have Vista. On the other I have XP with Sata drivers slipstreamed with service pack 3. When I go to boot up, it BSOD me unless I put the bios on Compatability.
Tell me please what to do. Thanks a lot.

I figured I needed the AHCI drivers. I only slipstreamed the Sata drivers. I can't download the file the web site is down somehow.

After 4 days I finally found something that worked.

After the XP installation is completed, the SATA Operation Mode in the BIOS can be changed to Enhanced in the following way.

Download the SATA (Intel Matrix Storage Manager) driver, file name 7tim04ww.exe from the following site.

    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/si...cid=MIGR-62909

    Setup this driver
    Run C:\DRIVERS\WIN\IMSM\PREPARE\install.cmd
Restart your computer and get into the BIOS
Change the SATA Operation Mode from Compatible to Enhanced
    Save and Exit BIOS
XP will find new hardware after the computer restart
Direct the driver installation wizard to C:\ DRIVERS\WIN\IMSM

The reason is that you should have put the HDD to Enhanced BEFORE reinstalling with the slipstreamed CD...

Thanks for the "change SATA mode after install" guide BTW!

Yeah, have a look at this thread. See if you're slipstreaming the drivers right, and then before installing XP, toggle the HDD mode to Enhanced/AHCI in the BIOS.

Because you have the HDD in IDE Mode, XP setup doesn't bother to load the AHCI driver for it.

Mike, the link you posted seems to be broken, as it doesn't take me to the download, just the IBM main page. Can you fix it?

All it does is link to this: h.ttp://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/si...cid=MIGR-62909

    Without the ...'s

Sorry for the double post, but does anybody know what the link is? I'm trying to look for it on the site but I can't find it.

BTW you can just dump those extracted files onto a floppy disk if you have a USB floppy... much easier than slipstreaming good luck

    Hello everyone,

Yesterday I installed windows XP 32 bit with dual booting with vista 64 bit (because some of the old games won't run on the 64 bit Vista )

Initially, I got BSOD because XP cd didn't have SATA drivers. During this installation, I didn't slip stream the xp cd with the SATA drivers, instead I only changed the bios setting from enhanced to compatible. After installing XP (as per the guide mentioned above) I repaired the vista bootloader using EasyBCD and then tried to re - load vista, but it resulted into BSOD. All this while XP opens fine. Now after I again changed the bios setting to Enhanced Vista booted fine, but XP gave BSOD

Conclusion: now every time I have to switch between Vista and XP I need to change the Bios Setting for the SATA configuration (enhanced for Vista, compatible for XP) or else the respective OS reboots with a BSOD. I guess I need to install SATA drivers in XP and then probably I can use "enhanced" setting for both XP and Vista

    1) Can anyone please let me know how I can install SATA Drivers on my installed XP partition ? I have downloaded the drivers, but don't know the process to install them.

    2) Also it would be really great if someone let me know from where I can get the latest drivers for components in G50VT-X1 for windows XP. I've checked this link but I'm not sure if these are for G50VT as well, since the title says G50V.

    Thanks,

    Suyash

    1) Force driver installation using "have disk method" in device manager (IDE controller needs the update if I remember correctly). Just after that, reboot and swith to enhanced mode, it should be running fine.

    2) The better way to find driver updates for XP is to use the autodetect driver feature of this website : http://ma-config.com/
(you'll have to install a component, but it's very reliable, I do every driver updates via this method)

    Hi Stouf,

Can you please elaborate more on this method, since I have not done much tinkering with the installation of device drivers via this method. I need to do this after I have logged in to XP, rite ?
In the IDE controller I'm having more than one components? How exactly do I use the driver which I've downloaded ?

    Thanks,

    Suyash

    1) in XP, open device manager
    2) in IDE controllers, right click on the component to update, choose 'update driver'
    3) Choose the second box, continue
    4) Check 'do not search, I will choose the driver' (or something like that in your langage ^^)
    5) Then when It will ask you to choose the driver to update, browse to the place where you extracted the SATA driver and choose 'iaStor.inf, ICH9M'
    6) Proceed with driver update
    7) repeat the procedure for each component in 'IDE controllers' to make sure. XP will check the drivers on next reboot.

You must be sure to switch to enhanced mode in the bios on next reboot, or it will reset itself ;)

The process worked like a charm for me...

I am now able to dual boot with both vista and xp in enhanced mode...

    Hi all,

I've enabled dual booting in my asus g50vt-x1 with the kind help provided above, but I also wanted to know where I can get the latest drivers for windows xp for my notebook.
Should I go ahead and download the drivers which are referred at this link ?
I'm vary about it because these are mentioned for g50v and mine is g50vt, so hence the apprehension.

    Thanks,
    Suyash

    Hi Stouf,

Seems like I missed this update from you last time since I was looking more into solving the BSOD problem.
Anyways, I looked up at the website that you've provided but it doesn't seem to be in English. Will the tool which is to be downloaded from there will also be in non - english language ?

    Thanks,

    Suyash
