I just wanted to get an idea to see if all the users are happy with the G50. I see alot of post of problems and was looking at this and the M50. I see alot lest posts on the M then I do on the G.

Yeah I like mine. I think I like my new EEE 1000h a ton too just because its something new.
The G50V serves me very well. I dont really game on it much I use it for web surfing and photoshop & video editing ect.
But I like the idea of gaming on it when I want too. I kinda wish it was a bit smaller but it makes up for the big size with the dual hard drives wich is VERY nice to me (more room for files & option for raid)
You have to remember if you had 10000 computers and 5 of them had problems, you would probably see 3 posts "something is wrong with my computer" and only 2 for "everything is perfect on my computer" its just nature to say something when you have a problem but be quiet when you dont.
Overall I can not think of any notebook that would have been better.
Id say more but im on the eee right now and so sleepy lol watching the kids and just counting the minutes until nap time. -
Agreed with Vicious, I love mine and couldn't think of any other machine I'd rather have (within the same price point). Sure it has a few issues here and there but I've never owned any piece of hardware that was flawless.

Agree with Viking, if I was filthy rich there are other units that I would like better, but its the price vs performance that the G50V-A1 really excels in. For the money it cant be beat.

I've had mine for a week, extremely happy with it. Haven't played any of the newer games but older ones like CS:S, BF 2142 and Warcraft 3 are running perfectly.
I'm also actually starting to like Vista! -
I like mine pretty well
-
I like mine too. The only think I don't like about this notebook is the touchpad buttons (2 of them). Playing 3D games like Gears of War, this unit can handle it no problems but temperature go up but I guess that is to be expected in such a tight casing. Just have to get a cooler pad. Other than that, I don't missed my Toshiba 5100 that it replaced.

I love mine. Experienced a few small issues much like the other owners but nothing too major. Mine has basically replaced my desktop as my primary system (I had intended on letting my gf use it to try and get her into gaming with me but now she gets to use my desktop instead lol).
I'm not playing any of the latest games on it but everything I own that's probably at least a year old or more runs perfectly with all details maxed. The temp will go up whenever the CPU/GPU is stressed (i.e. gaming) so I would definitely recommend a laptop cooler. I went with the Lapcool Pro from Vantec and it's fantastic. I'll often check how hot the air is coming out of the blower and with the lapcool on it's highest setting, the air feels slightly warm but nowhere near hot. Even without the cooler the blower works really well at keeping the temps down.
And as Vicious said, for price vs performance you really can't beat the G50V-A2 (or the A1 for that matter). -
I am very happy with mine. It's my first ever laptop and I'm really enjoying mobile computing and gaming. My desktop is an old P4 3Ghz - the G50V leaves it for dead. Very good laptop and highly recommended (not that I have much experience with other models).

Very happy with my G50v-A2. I bought it from XoticPC 9.05.08 and have Vista Home Premium 64, Vista Ultimate 32, and Xp Pro installed. Have also had Ubuntu 8.04 working pretty well. I use it for music production, web surfing, email, and testing operating systems.

I absolutely love mine! Its really a great laptop. It does everything well. For the price its about the best configed laptop on the market and the warranties are really good too.

Well... I'll just add on to the commotion and say mine's great too
. Brilliant laptop. The only qualms I have are the weight and the not quite perfect build quality (Screen could do with less flexing)
It's great for gaming too. I'm not one of the tri/quad 280 GTX owners (moved up from the desktop 7900 GT) so this is absolutely amazing as it is. -
I love mine. Does everything I want and need it to.

This laptop does not disappoint. I am very particular and have found it to my liking.
Best things about it: Great performance + the 9700 Nvidia card is not yet in the spot light as a defective Nvidia card. The fan is unnoticeable unless you are gaming and even then, the noise is acceptable. (I always use elevated NB rests for my laptops)
Things you will notice that you have read about: Yes, it really does attract finger prints and dust! You'll be using the small towel it includes. Yes, it is big for a 15.4" laptop (~2 pounds less, but dimensionally near-identical to my E1705 from DELL). Yes, the volume coming from the speakers should be louder (I have everything maxed to be acceptable) but hopefully this can be rectified via BIOS firmware / a new driver. -
Mine rocks big time! I simply love it.

With the latest bios and atk driver I'm totally stable. The only problems that remain are the keyboard combos like s+d+space etc. I have some weird problems at POST with RAID and eSATA plugged in but nobody else seems to have this setup to replicate it. I just keep my eSATA unplugged at boot and I have no problems.

Sorry, I have Asus M50VM-A1. I am very happy with mine.

I had the G50 for a couple months before deciding to sell it and go with a more portable notebook. So here's my version of the pros and cons after my daily use for 2 months:
Pros:
FAST. The CPU provides such great performance that it's a breeze running any CPU intensive software/games such as Photoshop and Flight Simulator.
Everything in the G50 is pretty much fully loaded and doesn't need any additional 'upgrading'. The 4gb of ram also adds wonders to heavy multi-taskers like myself and makes everything run ever so smoothly.
TOUCHPAD. It's the largest I've ever seen on a notebook and your fingers can glide effortlessly. If anyone has experienced the touchpad on the HP DV5, you'll find that any moisture on your fingers will make it extremely difficult and agitating to navigate the touchpad with.
PORTS. Like the Asus M50 series, the G50 has a surplus of ports. I particularly like having eSATA and HDMI since I use those almost on a daily basis.
GRAHPICS. Though it's not the most powerful GPU currently available, the 9700M GT can breeze through most games at high resolutions at ease.
DUAL HDD: There's not more I can say other than "WOW!" Having dual hard drives is the 'creme de la creme' of 15" notebooks and will be greatly appreciated by the digital music/video collector. Having 500gb of space was only exclusive to desktops just a few months ago, but now, G50 owners can have the option to upgrade their hard drives to 1TB with dual 500gb drives~!!! Just imagine all the por....errr... Disney movies you can store
Cons:
WEIGHT: It's the heaviest 15" laptop I've ever seen in my life. People with a small build won't have fun lugging this beast around the campus.
SIZE: Large footprint, almost the size of a 17" notebook... but not quite.
USB/SPEAKER: When one of the USB ports near the headphone jack is in use, the speakers will produce a very high pitched whine.
RAID-0/EXPRESS GATE. Expressgate will not work if you have raid-0 enabled
NOISE: Fans are quite audible during load and a blast of hot air can be felt near the vent. This is totally the opposite to the M50. The M50 actually produces less noise and heat than my 12" Asus U6V
Verdict:
The G50 would be superb for the mobile gamer and even casual users whom crave the extra storage space. With the exception of a fingerprint scanner, the G50 is fully loaded and ready for anything and everything you could possible throw at. The aesthetics and the 2 hour battery life probably won't attract any road warriors or professionals working in the archetypal office environment, but I'm sure Asus wasn't aiming at that market segment anyways. -
I´m really happy with mine. I felt dissapointed a few times with it (because of the random freezings that made the music stutter loudly and the USB+Line Out high-pitched whine) but got over it.
I've been using it on a daily basis, four hours straight and it's great. All the software engineering related applications I use for college run flawlessly and all at the same time plus photoshop and a some more apps. Great for multitasking.
Having the dual hard drive setup it's the best thing about this system. Now I can have my music collection always with me and never worry about running out of disk space.
The only con I have about this system it's the size. I had to buy a sidebag for a 17" to move it around! But I gladly exchanged portability for performance. -
Very Happy with my G50V-A2 as well. =D
G50 Owners! Are you happy?
