    Wanted to know if this was possible. I know it might be a bit of an odd use, but I'd like to use it as a stationary PC connected to a TV.

    Regards,

    Not sure what you're asking. If you're wondering if the laptop can be made to stay on even when the lid is put down, then yes. That's a setting in Windows.

    If you're asking if it's safe to do, well it will marginally increase heat by keeping another layer above the top of the laptop, but there will also be a space of air between the lid and the rest of the laptop. I suspect more than a few people use the laptop to run a monitor, in which case it is probably shut.

    I suspect it'd be fine. I've personally left my G50Vt-X1 on at night many times while it downloaded or updated something.

    You can turn the screen off by pressing Fn+F7. Not sure if it will also turn an external display off though.

    delta mentioned one of the best features of this laptop, this will allow you to turn the screen off while the lid is still open :)
    click on the battery icon->more power options->choose what closing...->on the "when I ..." choose nothing->enjoy! :)
