I have installed a retail copy of Vista Ultimate x64 on my G50. The only thing that doesn't work is Direct Console. I've tried everything I have found searching, but none of it fixes my issue. That includes all fixes people here have posted.

I only need this dumb app to turn off the back LEDs when I sleep. If there is a way to not need DC, then I'm game. I know the posse over at the OLED topic are waiting for a fix from Predator for that, but I just need to turn off the lights. I never overclock this thing, so that part is unnecessary. Those blue lights make me retarded.

I hope someone can help or point me to the right place.

    Thanks.

Here's what I've done, some of which may have been my attempts at anything.

    1. Reinstalled DirectConsole (2.03 and 2.05)
    2. Reinstalled ATKHotKey/ATKOSD (each version on Asus' site)
    3. Updated Bios.
    4. Restored to before I added a few MS updates.
    5. Uninstalled a few apps to see if there was a conflict (not Office or Adobe stuff).

As for the HotKeys, the middle 2 work fine, just not DirectConsole or to nix the TouchPad.

Many times it's just better to ask rather than peeling off the brain trying to figure out something that could be so simple from another perspective.

    Thanks again for all help.

I had all the same problems plus my Direct Console ATK Hotkey became corrupt...I ended up just using the Recovery CD on C drive and reinstalled it from the factory...then updated Bios, Direct Console, ATKHotkey and ATKOSD before new Windows updates messed with me again.
Everything seems to work fine now, just like the day I got it.

Be sure to install the ATK Generic Function Service (AGFNEX), I installed it from the driver CD since a quick Google search didn't turn up a newer version.

I spent the better part of two hours the other day trying to get Direct Console working and after reinstalling the ATK software and Direct Console itself I discovered that the generic function service seems to be the key. :x

That worked for me penguin. That had to be the only driver I didn't install.

Thanks for sharing your help! +Rep for you my friend. ;)

    Haha, no worries.

I was pulling my hair out myself over that one, glad to hear it's working! :>
