Hi, I have a G50VTX6 and I want to purchase a 24 inch monitor that has a native resolution of 1920x1080 (16:9). Since the native resolution of the laptop is 1680 x 1050 (16:10), would my picture get all messed up? Right now, I am looking at the display settings on my laptop and the highest resolution is 1680x1050. Is there a way to boost the resolution up to 1920x1080 so the external monitor won't look blurry and messed up?

You just need to connect your monitor to the laptop. And then set your laptop to only display on the monitor. Everything will be fine. And even when you use it as extended or clone monitor, you still can set its resolution. No problem at all

Thanks! Also, since the laptop only has a an VGA output, would the resolution still look good on the external monitor (text and images are sharp)? For example, I wouldn't be able to tell the difference in display quality between an VGA cable and a DVI cable right?

Thanks, I a lot. I was about to order some other cables off monoprice too. Anyone know where I can find these in US/CAN? http://www.cableuniverse.co.uk/catalog/cables/Digital-Coax-Aerial-Lead-Male-to-Female.html (They don't ship overseas) I can't find them in monoprice or anywhere else online in North America. Help?

I just switched from a HDMI cable to a straight VGA on my G50 and really can't see any difference at all in terms of sharpness (this is on a HP 2159m screen), while the color may be more accurate to the laptop's screen with the VGA (I'm not saying more accurate overall, but more like what I'm used to). I was surprised; I'd always heard the HDMI would give the best quality.

Yes, I actually use that for my older laptop that have DVI out to connect to my HDTV -

If your connecting to the external and what the external (tv, monitor) to run at its native res you need todo one of two things. Either close/ disable the main screen so that you can set the resolution higher on the external or use one as a primary and extend the desktop.
Its not going to let you mirror the same image at two different resolutions. -

Typically, and this can vary by os and particular driver. Just shutting the display works perfectly fine. Once closed alot of times (once again varies) it will goto the detected native res. If not just change it, if your still having issues let me know.
In windows or nvidia control panel you can manage multiple monitors. Shouldnt be needed just close the screen and then goto where you set the res see if the slider has extended.
If you need to use the keyboard the other option is Fn + F8 should easily cycle through off lcd lcd + external and external. -
Thanks, I will try Fn+F8 once I get my external monitor. Before I only thought of pressing Fn+F7 which only turns off the backlight.
I bought this monitor and I hope it comes in this week. What do you think?

I am going to hook up my PS3 and G50vt-X6. I like it because now I will have more space to work on my desk. Can't wait.
