Do all asus G50s come with direct console, express gate and the turbo CPU boosting?
I saw the ad said like 2.53GHZ to like 2.7 sumthing and finally something around 3... but the one I saw it had a 2.4Ghz so does that turbo boosting too like maybe 2.4>2.6>3 GHZ????
Also does all the computers have express gate to boot that linux thingy? .... What other asus computer has express gate>?

yes

the turbo CPU boosting is part of direct console, i got rid of vista fairly quickly so idk what the boosted speed is.
3.0 is the SetFSB limit, but the lan card dies, and you get glitches in the video (no pci-e lock).
afaik, most montevinas have expressgate. this one does at least. -
I hate to come across as being snarky, but there is a lot of information out there already that can be found using the search function, or by downloading the user's manuals from Asus. I've downloaded them myself and will read through them since I'm one of those crazy people who won't use something without reading the manual first in its entirety.
As for the OC feature, from the screen shots it looks like it changes the FSB. That would be the only way to OC anyhow, since these are not unlocked CPUs. So Normal is 200 MHz, Turbo is 210 Mhz, Turbo Extreme is 220 MHz. Since the P8600 and T9400 have different multipliers, you will end up with different speeds in the end. Not sure what you will get...I think everyone here knows my math is bad so I'm not even gonna try. -
where can i download these manuals??? I can't even find the G50 on asus's website.

Choose your specific notebook model and navigate to the "Manual" tab. -
tyvm.... asus doesn't even have a page for the new G series thats so bad....
-
They haven't really updated their website as a whole. You can find the specific pages for the G50V and G50Vt by searching for them under products. In any case, not everything on the manufacturer's own site is correct. For example, the dimensions are wrong, they just copied and pasted from the G1, so they are too small for the G50, especially widthwise.

Hey I just have a question... say like Asus g50v-A2 right is the serial code of the laptop but online it stays it either has 500 or 640GB harddrive can't remember. But a local store is sellings the A2 with only a 400GB harddrive??Are they aloud to do that? Also whats the difference between having a intel p8400 or p9400 other than speed boost. Is this new intel monteriva thingy good and how good is it? Is it overkill for light gaming like WOW WOTLK and cs Source? Or is it just good to have?
and.... since all online websites have the p9400 in the A2 they say with the turbo boost you can get up 3 Ghz I think... but if a local store sold me one with the p8400 will the turbo boost still work? See the store doesn't let you pick like what CPU u want they just said P8400! -
The A2 has a pair of 320GB HDDs for a total of 640GB. Yes, I do believe that stores can customize the laptop, the resellers that frequent NBR certainly offer that option. I'm not sure how that affects the warranty though, most likely the resellers then pick up the warranty coverage.
There are a few more differences between P8400, P8600, and T9400 than just clock speed. The P series processors have 25W TDPs, while the T's have 35W TDPs. The P8400 and P8600 also have 3MB L2 cache, while the T9400 has a 6MB L2 cache.
If you mean Montevina in terms of the PM45 chipset and Penryn CPU, then yeah, they are good. PM45 ups the FSB to 1066, but not sure how much real world impact that has. As for Penryn, it is built on a 45 nm process, which means cooler and better battery life. But really, the CPU is rarely the limiting factor; with games the GPU is usually the rate limiter. The G50 will handle WoW and Source just fine, they are hardly demanding. I play Source at max settings at 1280x1024 on my desktop (CPU is not as good as the Penryns in the G50s) and my fps rarely falls below 50. -
so both latpops have montevina ??? how does the L2 cache affect performance.? What do you mean by G50?
-
This is from wiki: "Montevina refers to the fifth-generation Centrino platform, now formally named Centrino 2 to avoid confusion with previous Centrino platforms."
So to answer your question, both laptops use the montevina platforms.
L2 will affect performance somewhat, but it'll probably won't be noticeable for daily tasks or running CPU intensive programs.
