I am using a G50vt-x5 and recently put in another seagate 7200 320gig (ST9320423AS) into the second bay with asus mounts. I then set the HD mode to RAID and created the array with the raid bios (ctrl-i). After using the recovery DVD to restore the OS to this array, I noticed this setup runs way slower than a single drive. HD Tune benches higher numbers, but Vista startup is more than twice as slow. Also there are pauses from the post screen(ROG logo) all the way to vista begining to load. Programs like speedfan and diskeeper take many minutes to fully load.

After I noticed this sluggishness, Ive updated the bios, and tried both the Intel Storage Matrix drivers on Asus' site, as well as the new Rapid Storage drivers from Intel.....still insanely slow.

Whats the deal here? I am very confused. Would reinstalling windows help I wonder? Anyone got ideas?

    COoommmeeeee oooonnnnn!?!!
someone must have a bit of insight

arent the other models of the G50VT come with two HDDs already in RAID? and it all works? This is a low level issue it seems, is there anything else that can affect the RAID besides the bios? Is this software raid or is there a chip!??

in case anyone gives a damn

ive come to the conclusion that the combination of RAID firmware and hardware is absolute on these laptops. G50, G51, G60s all use this system, anyone here have success with a RAID setup on these machines??? The option ROM included for the ICH9 within our BIOS is outdated and we as end users have no access to this, besides extracting it from some other bios, an alternative which I tried all the way up to version 8.9 with no success(mobile vs desktop hardware ID issue). Asus doesnt give support for RAID use, I mean, they could have updated our ing bios if they wanted it to work at the very least. So I got this 2nd POS seagate 320gig drive in hopes of setting up a raid and am stuck using it in a JBOD setup. Should have just kept my broken F3SV and found a good lawyer, woulda cost the same after paying for this refurb pile of junk.

ARRR, Intel provides the proper updated firmware(option ROM) to the assemblers, Asus simply chooses not to include these in our updated bios. I am done purchasing, building, and dealing with these flawed asus systems.
