I read a thread on this board about ordering an extra bottom piece for a G50 or 51 laptop, and modifying it by cutting ventilation into it. I thought it was a good idea, until I got the part. It's well made, and I think I'll probably hack the heck out of it and that concerns me. I found this site that'll make anyone less afraid to do so.

Xoxide has a wide array of fan covers that could conceal and hack job.

Does this mod really help the temps? I have heard it can both hurt and help. I would consider ordering a new backplate if it really does help. Actually I have an old back plate that I could mod if it really does help.

YES it really does help. I drilled holes in the fake sub woofer along with holes over the GPU and CPU..I noticed a 5 deg. drop in temps.

I have the g60, they took out the fake fan whole probably realised it was to tempting, I went ahead and took a circular drill saw, a modders best friend. A few minutes later and I had a perfect circle. Some sand paper around the edges and I had a smooth finish. I took a fan filter from my old Antec case and hot glued it to the plate. temps dropped 10 degreas and will drop more with a laptop cooler. Thanks for the link from Xoxide, it will be very handy when I want to clean up the look
