This may sound like an odd question, but does anyone have a Drivers/Program disk for a G50V A1 on Windows XP? When I ordered mine from xoticpc.com, I got it with Vista by mistake. I installed XP on it, and followed the driver guide provided in another thread, but I don't think I got them all, due to my 'Power Surge on USB Port' problem, as well as some weird issues with the laptop not shutting down completely sometimes(The lights on the quickstart thing don't turn off, I have to just hold the power button), to it just running very sluggish and error prone...

I have tried asking xoticpc.com if there is any way they could let me buy an XP Drivers disk, but they refused. Has anyone bought a G50V A1 with XP and has a drivers disk for it? If you could please either post in this thread or shoot me a PM, I would really appreciate it. I'm almost to the point of simply formatting the drive and installing XP over again because I'm so frustrated with the way it is running. If anyone can help please please help me out.

It's not like xoticPC "refused" to give you the disk; there simply is no disk, because XP is not supported for this laptop (or indeed any recent ASUS mainstream laptop); only Vista is supported for recent laptops.

So yes, follow that guide (section "Windows XP"), that's the best thing we have. Should work fine.

Then what would xoticpc have sent me with my laptop had I ordered it with XP? No disk?

And thank you for the link, I've never seen that one before.

Well, they could have compiled a drivers disk themselves. Or maybe just dropped the drivers in a folder on the hard drive.

I'm not sure what the resellers' policy is when they install XP on the machine, or to what extent they support XP (even though they install it, they may not fully support it).

But it's no big problem, you can just use GenTech's guide and save all the drivers for later use, either on the HDD or on a CD.

I've followed the guide to XP as far as I know and it's working ok despite one thing: All the USB-ports are shut down. They all say"Could not read the driver(Code 39)".
Anyone know what driver I am missing?

At the latest after you install the chipset drivers, the USB controller(s) should be automatically installed and the USB ports should work, as far as I know.

Do the ports work before Windows starts? For instance, if you have a bootable USB key, does the computer boot from it? Or, if you don't have a bootable USB key, at least when you insert it it should be shown as an option to boot from when you press ESC at the ASUS splashscreen.

They did work up til I selected to start Windows XP from my dual-boot.
However I managed to solve it by updating the driver in the manager and selecting manually an approved standard driver. Then all of a sudden they all started to install and the razer came alive.
It must have gotten hold of a 64 bit driver and thought that it was the best one.
