So I've probably used my G50V-A2 for 10 hours total since I bought it several weeks ago, and I'm having numerous issues. Mostly OS performance issues and lag, but now I'm having a big problem.

For some reason my battery is showing 0% and will not charge. I've checked to make sure the battery is locked in, which it is. I've also removed / reinstalled the battery several times, but no go.

Yesterday it worked fine. Today, I try to turn it on (power cord unplugged) and it won't power on. I plugged it in about an hour ago, and I can run it when it's plugged in, but the second I remove the power cord the computer shuts off.

Windows says "(plugged in, charging)" - but it's not charging.

    Anyone else have this issue?

I'm starting to regret this purchase.

You could be unlucky and have a failed battery which should get replaced under warranty.

i hope it's something simple...ill contact asus tech support. i was just wondering if this was maybe a common issue.

the strange thing is that the battery charging icon in the task bar is animated, showing that the battery is charging...the battery just sits at 0% though. bummer.

It's most likely a faulty battery. Calibrating the battery may help, but you shouldn't need to do that with a brand new unit.

Could you describe your problem in more detail?

The battery option should be "Start battery calibration" or something along those lines. If you don't have it, see the Info Booth in my signature; there is a question/answer regarding "manual" battery calibration.

ASUS battery warranty is 1 year.

G50's have no battery calibration option.

to do a manual calibration, change the "shutdown when 1%" option in windows (i dont use vista, cant help you with that) to do nothing, drain it until it turns off, and charge it up again. the battery should then have the current "max capacity".

Hey guys, I had the same problem. There's a reset button on the bottom of the laptop you can press in with a paperclip. It's the hole where the two triangles are pointing to a circle. Hold that in for 10 seconds for a reset and your battery will work again.

I actually had the same problem today. Flipped it over, did the reset switch, turned it on and is running like a champ! Good tip.

If it is a G50 you have then, turn the notebook over and when you are looking at the laptop upside down the 'pin hole' will be in the BOTTOM RIGHT corner..

    The battery has probably died...

How old is your notebook? If it's pretty old (say 1.5-2years+) then it's "normal" for some batteries to die (especially if they've seen heavy use).

You could try the batt calibration but if the battery is not charging at all and is not able to power the notebook at all, there is little chance of that changing anything.

If you are in North America you can check if you can buy a new battery on the ASUS estore (google for these terms). In other countries batteries will typically be more expensive, but anyway, see the Info BoothFAQ for some options on how you could search for them.
