I'm using the default 64 bit vista with the latest drivers from the asus site. I search for bluetooth devices and nothing shows up. My phone shows my laptop but the laptop doesn't recognize anything. Any ideas?

Edit: If the phone shows the laptop, that means the phone probably isn't set to discoverable.

Yeah most phones have it off by default to save battery life, if the bluetooth on the laptop was not working the phone probably would not have seen it.

No the bluetooth on the phone is definitely discoverable - I use it extensively and it works fine with my previous laptop, the 1000H. Also I know its not just my phone because my phone sees other discoverable phones of my neighbors, but the laptop sees zilch, it doesn't even see my bluetooth headset when I put it in discoverable mode.

    This is really weird.

First thing I would do is uninstall the bluetooth drivers then and re-install them. See if that helps,

After that I would disconnect and reconnect the bluetooth card to see if it just had a bad connection.

If both fail, I suppose faulty hardware is possible and you will have to ask for a replacement card or RMA the unit.

Do you have other BT devices than the phone? Like a mouse. If the notebook sees that, then I suspect software bugs rather than hardware problems.

"How do you disconnect the bluetooth card? Open her up?" I guess so.

"I uninstalled and installed the drivers still no dice :-/ is there an asus support hotline?"
There is some contact info on the Info Booth/FAQ. Or google.

I actually tried searching for bluetooth on the train to NYC, where there are literally 20 bluetooth devices within range at any given time, according to my windows mobile phone. The laptop picks up 0 devices.

I agree with you totally that it is a software bug, because at one point, before I formatted for Raid0 it worked fine. Some piece of software must be taking precedence over the proper bluetooth driver. I even tried reinstalling wireless console 2 and making sure bluetooth was turned on.

If it was software I would think just re-doing the drivers would have fixed it.

I do not recall being able to disable the bluetooth in the bios, but do check that out and see if its there. Something thats out of sight and out of mind like that is often the issue. (never mind, forgot you said you can find the notebook so this is not a valid problem if its off its totally off)

Besides that can you think of any software you have installed thats not default on the system?

I wonder if the bluetooth would work under linux? That way you can use a live CD and boot into linux and know for sure if its hardware or software.

I wish I could be more help, something like this if I could get hands on with it I bet I could figure it out but just troubleshooting from afar can be difficult.

It's such a strange problem lol. I keep going through my programs list to try to find the culprit but I don't see anything! I thought maybe it was sa problem with the wireless console so I reinstalled that...

This is the kicker.... I don't know if you remember, but when you install the bluetooth driver, vista shows the different functions of the bluetooth hardware (Audio, peripheral, l2pa or something like that and the others) it shows each part and indicates if it is installed and ready. All the tests show it is ready there! so Windows even recognizes the hardware!

I've opened a dialog with Asus, so hopefully they can pinpoint the problem. I would hate to have to format just for this, but I really need bluetooth working! Thanks for the support guys, I'll let you know what I figure out tonight.

Could you try a different Bluetooth stack?

I'm open to suggestions :) Like from the manufacturer of the actual card? I didn't get to call them last night I had other eggs to fry :( Tonight I'll try to call again... but I'd be interested in what stack you suggest :) thanks!

I don't know. I always used what I had on the drivers disk... I think ViciousXUSMC had good experience with BlueSoleil, but that might be commercial software.

Oh yea, i'm dealing with EXACTLY same problem!
I fully agree that this is FULL Asus Bluetooth QUICKIE Work!!!
(I hope that new drivers will be better.)
Actually i solve this problem, almost.
If i add EpoxERD USB Key, and install BlueSoleil_6.2.227.11 (32or64bit).
Everything works - my Logitech V470 mouse and Nokia Headset BH-604.
But this Usb Key is long, and i buyed new very very small BT v2.0 Usb Key
It is so small that adapter is even smaller than self USB connector.
