I am pretty happy with the features/performances of the G50V.
Just some little very annoyng bugs...
Dunno if this one have been discussed already or if it happends to me only:
After each start up reboot, once the main OS is fully loaded, the hard disk starts working heavily and the CPU sits at about 25/35%. In the task manager I can see that the resource that is eating cpu power is the "NT Kernel & System". It keeps going like that for about 7/9 minutes and then it sits down again to 0% and everything is fine.
I am using Vista Home Premium 64 and it's a clean install with the recovery disk.
Is there any way to check what's going on during those 7/9 minutes and fix it?
thanks!!

ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
This is highly likely to simply be Vista doing housekeeping chores, esp since it shows up in the Kernel/system. Wouldn't hurt to do a quick virus/malware scan, however, since those are the sort of things that sometimes go crazy right on bootup trying to work their "magic" on the host.

yeah I thought it could have been something like that...the OS is freshly installed and yeah I checked for viruses and malaware but nothing... seems like it tries to do something for about 7/8 minutes and then it stops..
is there any way/software to check EXACTLY what's going on during those minutes? What the hard disk is doing and what is keeping the cpu loaded? -
Some antivirus applications do a scan on bootup, by default. If it's a bad antivirus, then it can take 7 minutes (if it's a good one, it should be done in 30 seconds).
Also, Vista seems to be doing a lot of "settling in" when it is newly installed, so like ClearSkies says, it's probably that.
Additionally, there is the G50 CPU problem, where the CPU is loaded to a larger extent than it should be by the System process. But in that case, the CPU activity is not correlated with HDD activity I think (although nobody checked explicitly for that, so it might still be the case). Have a look at the G50 Owner Lounge, 1st post, I added some links there. -
The anti virus is the Avira free one I have it on my desktop and never had that problem...
In my case there is HDD activity togheter with the CPU load. I tried to disable the USB but it made no difference.
It would be nice if it would be possible to use a software able to log what the hard disk is doing during those minutes..
Does it exhists?
thanks! -
if its just after booting, then its vistas "super feature" called "superfetch", its an "intelligent" system that loads your most used programs into the ram for faster loading when you open them.
You can disable this feature in the services section, however, while annoying, it does help speed up the startup of some programs. For example for me, photoshop loads awfully fast, but thats the only heavy application I use.
Cheers
Also, if you go to your task manager then to your resource monitor under the performance tab, you can see which files are being read. That way you know exactly whats going on.
