So can I ask (still unclear to me), if you set the sound volume to 0 in the bios, then the boot up R.O.G splash will be silent, but the windows volume is unaffected?

    Thanks!

Yes, you're correct. You can always try it on your unit to check for yourself... it'll only take 2 min ;)

BSOD: there should be a "card reader" driver on your CD; I have no idea what would be its exact name but it shouldn't be difficult to find out :) First, try to remove the current card reader drivers (perhaps in safe mode for increased reliability), reboot, and install the correct drivers from the CD or download.

Maybe Vista already has drivers for the card reader, so before reinstalling you could also test the card and see what happens.

Post back if this doesn't solve your problem.

Yep, I think this is a hardware interference problem.

Did you cleanly remove the old drivers first?

    I had the aspg.exe problems listed.I unistalled the aspg.exe.
Now my optical drive, dvd/cd, doesn't work.
I get the 'location is unavailable'. Ary the 2 related or is it something else?
I'm running a windows vista home premium on a G50V series.

I'm also having a problem with shutdowns; both restarts and complete shutdowns. It takes sometimes 5 minutes to shutdown; and most times restarts saying there was s shutdown problem.

    Any help with that also?

    thanks in advance.

    EDIT:
shutdown took over 5 minutes, and rebooted as an unexpected shutdown.
but, the optical drive is working.

also i can't perform a restore. the error message is: "The creation of a shadow copy has timed out."
I tried 2 different restore points and neither worked.

well not quite working. or at least corectly.

In case this is still useful: With this amount of problems maybe it's best to do a System Recovery (to factory defaults) using either the recovery partition or the optical media.

Nothing suggested here worked and the problem continued to worsen.

I reformated and reinstalled the OS twice; once was just a partial of the 1st partition the 2nd was a complete recovery. No good. I couldn't even get windows to download all of it's updates. It wouldn't install my printer and had problems of an incomplete installation of my bluetooth adapter for my bluetooth mouse.
I called customer service told them the problem. They said it sounded like a hardware issue since software problems would be resolved by the partial or full recoveries I performed.
I send it out to ASUS. they got it in 5 days, and sent it back in 2 business days.
They said they recovered the hard drive to factory specs and updated the BIOS. I told them I did the same thing, except for the BIOS. The CSR couldn't answer or explain anything.

Well, it's been a little over a week and the aspg.exe stopped working message has appeared twice. Both times it popped up when i plugged in my Hammer 1TB external HD. That's when it 1st started 6 weeks ago.

Tomorrow I'll spend time on the net looking for more answers and then during the week call tech support and see if anyone there has any answers.
