    Hey everyone,

Been tinkering with my G50 since I got it last week. I seem to be having some issues with the quality of the microphone. While the quality from my mic seems to be decent (but not great a persistent hum can be heard somewhat and there don't seem to be driver updates for audio on ASUS's website), I'm having issues specifically when using Ventrilo. I don't know if anyone else uses this program, but people complain that I am coming in really choppy. I'm figuring it's probably just a compatibility issue with the server side codec, just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this and if anyone had any pointers on fixing this. Thanks in advance.

Well, if you are trying to use the internal mic with ventrilo, I don't think that's a good idea. In Ventrilo settings, use the Test button to test how Ventrilo records your voice. There is also a setting that recognizes when you talk (or the level sound is above a threshold) and then sends it over the network. If you are using that "automatic" recognition, try lowering the threshold (the sensitivity value) until Ventrilo starts detecting your normal voice level.

Internal mic always sucks from my experience, a $3 cheapo wally world mic is a better idea, its not crammed into a laptop case with a small opening and can be near your mouth lik it should be.

Ah, unfortunate. Well if the sound quality would match what I get in sound recorder I think the internal mic would be passable. My friend and I tested it on Skype and he said I was much more clear on Skype than Ventrilo. Like I said, probably just due to an incompatibility with the server codec but not sure what's causing it... (Audio drivers, Vista 64 bit maybe?)
