I know that there are the mini-pci ports in use for the wifi and the ethernet controller, but Everest shows that there are two empty PCI ports. Thats not to say that there are necessarily physical interfaces for those pci buses (such as mini-pci ports), but I would hope that there are.

Does anyone know if there are any more mini-pci ports hidden away somewhere, and if so where are they.

I'll be ripping this thing apart soon to take a look myself , but if anyone has any knowledge of this it would be great.

I am hoping (though it is doubtful) to find a mini-pci port that will have enough space around it to fit in this ( http://www.neutronexpress.com/prod....0FA10/MINI_PCI_PORT_IEEE_FIREWIRE_MODULE_ROHS ) Texas Instruments 1394 controller.

    We'll see.

Do you really need more that one firewire port? I really doubt you'll be able to fit that connector for the firewire plugs but maybe you could remove the connector and wire them directly to the board. I don't think there are any open ports but you could check the disassembly post on the forum. I think is might be in the Owner's Lounge section.

I think everest counts the slot ports on the side for the external cards.

But the only other two inside are the one for Wifi and the one for Turbo memeory. If you dont have the turbo memory I think you can use that slot for something else... But it has no other slots.

If you look at the guid someone made to take it apart you can see everything.

It sounds silly, but I work in pro audio and the onboard Ricoh 1394 controller isn't stable enough for efficient use of my audio interface (it's a problem that seems to only affect pro audio users, but it really does make a huge difference in performance). The plan is to rewire the existing port to the Texas Instruments controller, which is the best kind to have.

After writing I realized what you said, that the Expresscard port was one of those that Everest was counting. So I guess the Turbo memory slot is the one that I'm looking for.

Time to open it up again. I need to clean it anyway.

    Updated:

Not gonna happen. All the mini-pci slots (and I could only find the one for the wifi) are half sized. Not 124 pin. The only 124 pin connector is the GPU. Oh well, nice thought anyway.

But I think I managed to cool things down a bit. I don't know exactly what it was that did it, but when I was tinkering around in there something that was causing my laptop not to cool at it's best was fixed. The only intentional things that I did, was to re-seat the fan and I moved a piece of yellow tape off of the heatsink. Other than that I just generally cleaned (it wasn't that dusty anyway). It's OC'ed to 3.54ghz and I am idling around 44°C and it has only maxed out at 74°C on one core and 65°C on the other. There have been times that it has hit up at 90+° before (I know, that's real bad).

I just bought a psu and two 120mm fans, and I plan on making a custom cooler to get things under control. But this is a start.

Anyway back on topic thanks for the input on what ports might be available.

I assume you have already considered it, but are there any Expresscard solutions you could use?

Yeah, I've got an expresscard that I use. I had just thought that this would be easier in the long run, but it doesn't look like it stands chance.
