    I went under Control Panel>Sound>Speakers>Properties>Enhancements and selected the Equalizer and selected Bass and it boosted the sound level.

    Sounds better.

    try this:

    Control Panel>Sound>Speakers>Properties>Enhancements

    and select volume balance or something like this (i don't know becouse i've polish vista) in properties is Microsoft. I have really big sound boost :)
