We all know by now that there is a port on the left side of the laptop marked "ANT", for antenna. Looking around the drivers disk, I found references to the following TV tuners. I'm pretty sure the TV hardware is there, but I don't see any software for it. I haven't tried Media Center yet but all in due time.

    Code:

Software\Tuner\YUAN YUAN MC570 TV Tuner Driver for Vista 32 bit (V2.3.3.17)

Software\Tuner\YUAN YUAN MC570 TV Tuner Driver for Vista 64 bit (V2.3.3.17)

Software\Tuner\YUAN YUAN MC770 TV Tuner Driver for Vista 32 bit (V2.3.3.7)

Software\Tuner\YUAN YUAN MC770 TV Tuner Driver for Vista 64 bit (V2.3.3.7)

Software\Tuner\YUAN YUAN MC872-1D TV Tuner Driver for Vista 32 bit (V2.3.3.7)

The actual hardware is not there, Asus did not put the TV tuner in G50V.

I know GenTech said the hardware isn't there, but I most certainly have a gold plated port on the left side of my computer labeled ANT. (Obviously an antenna connection or whatnot) Where does it lead to? I can have a photo for you tomorrow.

    It leads to nowhere :p

You can add a tuner in I am sure. Thy dont like to include the tuners since its so region specific not to mention the changes to FTA TV soon.

If there was hardware there you would see it in your device manager, and my Everest runs would have definitely seen it.

Well the little connector isn't just stuck in there...I was going to go to best buy and drop close to a big one on a HD usb stick, but if there's tuner hardware in here then I won't. I mean, is it just soldered to an empty spot on the board? That would make no sense...

No it makes sense it means the notebook was designed to have a tuner there just is not one installed, if you open it up there is going to be a spot to install one you just have to find a tuner that fits the model and is for your region, then hook it up to the jack.

Wow this is weird, somehow Asus has the drivers for the "empty tv-tuner" on their website.

    YUAN_MC770A TV Tuner driver
YUAN_MC770A TV Tuner driver for Vista

    YUAN_MC872 TV Tuner driver
YUAN_MC872 TV Tuner driver for Vista

    Yuan_MC570 TV Tuner driver
Yuan_MC570 TV Tuner driver for Vista

I wonder why they would go through all that trouble and render the tuner in the G50v useless?

They have all there Vista drivers up to, No xp yet though :(

probably not for the US model. When I used to rock my Z71V, they had a port on there for an external PCI-X card to slide in. I think its basically an expresscard slot that never materialized. The port was there with no hardware behind it. Maybe the Asus engineers are too far ahead of the production team. ha.
