So I went to a store here in Toronto which carried display models of the G50V-A1 and the M51, there is a noticeable size difference, the base chassis is not the same as someone in this forum had incorrectly told me. It's over and an inch wider and half an inch thicker. Also the weight is noticeably different.
When I asked the sales associate to pull out the G50 for me to look at he told me it was a 17" laptop. I had to correct him. Obviously he was going on size impression, it was pretty thick and wide relative to the M51 he had pulled out first.
I would say the M51 is your typically sized 15.4" laptop. In line with the HP Dv5t, Dell Inspiron 1525 that you can find at your local best buy. However, the Asus G50v is significantly larger. I am reconsidering now given the size, i wish they had a smaller form factor. IMO, the keypad is a waste of space on a gaming laptop.

It's funny because when I looked at the Dvt5 I thought it was too small. I like the beefy look of the G50V-1A.

it's really only a matter of preference

The G50V screen is 15.6" not 15.4" but it isn't that much of a difference.

the G50v-x1 is 15.6 and the the G50v-a1,a2 is 15.4 to be exact, the best buy version is the G50v-x1
G50V is pretty friggin wide
