    Hello,

I had a G50v-A2 and when I checked the weight it came in over 7lbs on the scale. So it seems thie 6.2/6.5lb notebook is really more than advertised as.

My other issue with it was that everything lists it as 14.6" wide but it was just a hair under 16".

So it seems they are selling us on false information. If it where these specs its a GREAT notebook.

Anyway I returned it because in hopes to get the g50vt-a2 instead but now knowing they are bigger and weigh more, what do you think about the g71-a2? Its a 17" notebook and only 16" (so they claim) and only about a 1lb more than the g50 actual weight was. But does anyone know if these specs are true on the g71 or do they lie also like the g50's did?

    thx!

First, welcome to the forum as a new member. Secondly, not quite :).

    1. Asus (and all manufacturers, really) routinely publish system weights without the battery - and sometimes optical drives - inserted. Add that in and you end up exactly where you were.

    2. Height is always tricky (sometimes they omit the rubber feet's contribution), but usually WxD is pretty accurate. Don't take this the wrong way, but on a 16" wide system you should end up with a 17" diagonal screen (or a *really* big bezel on a 15" screen) based on geometry alone -- are you sure you were measuring correctly? The G50 is known to be slightly larger than most 15.4 chassis', but 1.5" discrepancy in what you report from published is a fairly large amount.

Well the thickness and depth of it are fine, they match up good, and I know the rubber feat may toss it off a bit.

But for the width, I have a photo picutre I took even with the camera (thus why I was allowed to return it because its not what was listed) and it was just over 15.5" wide, even though the sites state 14.6"

The weight, they all say 6.5lbs with battery and some even say 6.2lbs, so why would they say with 6cell battery and than its really like 7.1lbs... Thats a big diffrence also.

I actually got in argument with merchant over it because I wanted to return it because the size was wrong and weight and they said thats normal. While I understand it if it was like 14.6" listed and I got it as 14.8" but over an inch bigger and almost 1lb more is a lot for a notebook. anything yes its very minor but on notebooks its a lot.

That is weird. The size listed on the ASUS website, http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=5&l2=74&l3=762&l4=0&model=2414&modelmenu=2 , also works out to be around 14.6 inches.

Can you post a link to that picture, I know you can't post links yet but you could just remove the http: // www in front and then it should work.

Also, indeed, the website says 6.2 lbs with 6cell battery. So maybe they are measuring it with only 1 HDD, without the optical drive and who knows what else... The weight is somehow less tangible but a 1 inch "error" on the width is indeed unacceptable. :)

Got no way to get the picture on the computer. I took the picture and printed it with that notebook I returned, but now I dont have a way to get my pics until I get a new notebook or get my desktop fixed. The computer I am on now has no memory slot reader and wont see my camera USB.

But It was just under 16" wide, maybe like 15.6-15.8" wide. Weight was for sure at least 7lbs as I used digital scale to check.

I expected the weight to be off a tad because the 2hd and 1hd model weigh the same? NOT, so I figure maybe .5 off but not almost a 1lb...

As for the size, well if anyone who still has it can measure their g50v feel free to post beause mine was almost 16" wide...

It actually upsets me because I love the specs of the laptop. But I didnt want something so big and everything smaller sucked... but why have something the same size as a 17" I mine as well have gotten the g71 than. except I can see it, I buy that and itgs 17.5" wide and 9.5lbs, lol.. even though they say 16" wide and 8.6lbs...

Ugg I hate what asus does sometimes... I even had a rep tell me its listed wrong in an email I sent them, yet its still wrong....

Maybe they are measuring it without the bezels, or something. :) If they can afford to not include the rubber feet in the height (as if they are removable or you could run the notebook well without them), why not also disregard the bezels in the width?

Bottom line: advertised, marketing physical dimensions are not reliable.

Yup, sux. Just make sure you list it on your site correct or put a note on it. Caused me to return the item (plus the vt model came out anyway). The retailer dont like it because they eat it as its opened and cant charge restock because was advertised incorrect and had no way to know until I opened. (I mean it sux for both of us)

Anyway any chance that you could verify the size of the g71 (17" version of the g50v?) for me? If you know the true weight also that would be good.

If not, and anyone else knows the answer to these two please share. I know what the lists weight and size say but it seems we cant listen to that... :)

    Thx
