Whenever I cold boot my G50VT, I can clearly hear system noise coming through the speakers of this laptop..

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZXwX4VMVHvM&fmt=18

I don't know which chipset's system noise I am hearing, it might be the PCI-Express bus, or something coming from the SouthBridge, as I assume the Ac'97 D to A converter thing is hooked up there...

I am running BIOS V. 209. Perhaps upgrading to BIOS 213 may be a good idea... Has anybody else had this problem? This happens each and every time I cold boot this unit. So far, this unit has been working flawlessly except for this issue that started ever since I got it.

Note: During boot-up at least (Have not verified farther), when I have my headphones plugged in, it still achieves the same volume through the main speakers, instead of channeling through to the headphones. But that may be 'normal' behavior (head phones jack doesn't work), because drivers are not initialized yet. Ehh I'm clueless.

That's a weird one. I'd try updating your bios and resetting it to defaults. If that doesn't fix it it's probably a hardware problem. You could try changing the volume setting in the BIOS under the boot tab, not sure if that will help but worth a try maybe.

On occasion I get that same noise! It bugs the hell out of me when it happens because it's usually like 2am while I'm in bed with my wife sleeping next to me. It wakes her up and I get busted for "playing on the computer so late". ;)

I have mainly noticed the problem when I am switching for one operating system to another. I have Win7, Vista64 and XPpro32 installed. Many times (but not always) when I go from XP to Vista or visa versa I'll get that noise. I think I'm at Bios 209 as well but I know it was happening at 207(?) too.

Bump! So not that many people have had this problem? I bet some have. I should read the lowest scored reviews for the G50V / G50VT on newegg...

    I can't easily update the BIOS from 209 to 213, as I am running a 64-bit O/S .. and the flashing utility is 32-bit only (I think)

I doubt changing the volume level in the BIOS will do any good, but I'll try that, and I will also reset the BIOS to default first to see if that takes care of it..

This happens every time I do an improper shutdown, mainly when I have a failed overclock. I just enter bios, then save and quit. That usually gets rid of the sound.

Well I just checked because it happened again and I am now at Bios 213 so I don't think that will help. I saw my Bios volume was at 8 so I turned it down to 0 just in case this might help. I know that I have had the problem since I started dual / tri booting the laptop. I started with the stock Bios (I think it was 207 but can't find that anywhere), then jumped to 209 and I guess I updated to 213 around May 18th from the files on my system.

I think Weenie might be onto the key problem. Because I think it happens after a crash but mine usually goes away after that reboot.
