    Hello,

I intend to purchase a laptop for Spring '09 and the G50V-A1 has surely caught my attention. I was wondering however, if I should buy it now, or wait till December when it might be cheaper.

Based on guesses, speculation and previous notebook price fluctuations:
    a) Is there a scheduled release for a new notebook GPU or CPU that might bring the price of the G50V-A1 down?
    b) If so, how much do you guess the G50V-A1 would cost in December?

If price won't change, I might as well buy it now. :)
    What do you think?

If I had to guess I would say it could possibly be $200 less by that time.

I'm not sure about the US, but here in the Netherlands ASUS laptop prices don't drop much, if at all, unless that particular notebook goes EOL and they still have shelves full of that model, that don't sell... that's about the only instance where the price drops...

Asus has always kept the price the same, give or take $50-100 for a given model. They just bump up the components during an update.

If there is a substantial amount of unsold inventory remaining, they might offer MIRebates, but the G-series has never had that problem since the launch of the original G1. You're going to be paying full price in December or whenever you decide to buy, and the first update of the G50 probably won't be until after Jan since it just released and Asus has to work through their remaining models first before it's turn will come up.

There won't be a price drop specifically on the G50v by December. But, if there are any newer ASUS models with similar specs by that time, then it will definitely be cheaper than the G50v.

    G50V-A2 at 1899.99$
    G50V-A1 at 1799.99$
    G50V-X1 at 1399.99$

It's like they are forcing people to buy either the A2 or the X1. Might as well buy the A2 for 100$ more.
