Hi. I have been using my G50V-A1 for about a week now and find it kind of slow. I mean, I was expecting to be more responsive in the OS that came with it. I have a desktop with a AMD opteron 175 (old 939, dual core), 4G memory using Win Vista x64 and I feel that this older machine is more responsive than my new laptop. Let me know if I am wrong to compare the 2 units.
Is there anything I can change to get it to the level its suppose to perform? Also, there are 2 harddrive in this thing. I have loaded some software already but was wondering, can I setup raid 0 on this thing while not having to reformat the harddrive?
Please advise.
Thanks,
JB..

On my G50V-A2 (same as yours but with a slow, slow bluray drive), I immediately created a RAID 0 array and installed XP Pro, so I can't say how the stock performance of this machine is.
I will tell you though, that the performance of this system is a huge upgrade from my G1S-A1, which I had upgraded to a T9500 and 4GB. Comparing it to a desktop is a bit unfair since everything is more constrained on a laptop. And your desktop is well spec'd.
Your specific performance issues are hard to diagnose without more specific information.. But switching to RAID 0 will generally speed up the boot and application access time (this varies from app to app). Also I just read a post about someone having problems with Norton consuming a massive amount of CPU time, so you might want to check your task manager and see if you are idling at a high rate of CPU consumption. Sounded like there as a compatibility issue with the 64-bit OS.
To go to RAID 0 you will need to reinstall your OS and everything. It's a low level thing -- you have to set it from the BIOS, so changing to RAID 0 without backing up your data is a bad idea because it will be rendered unreadable once you create the RAID array. -
Definitely check your task manager and see if the CPU load is normal (i.e., not over 50% the whole time -- should be nearly idle most of the time, in desktop work). People have been reporting abnormal CPU loads on some G50V-A2 units.
G50V-A1 seems slow
