Hi guys, just got my G50V about 5 days ago, and it runs beautifully...except that when I plug headphones (I have tried about 5 pairs), I can hear this noticeable high pitched whine. This occurs both when I'm running applications that project sound, and when I mute the sound too.

Additionally, the sound occasionally changes pitch depending on whether the computer is doing some hardware intensive stuff (like gaming).

Any ideas on what to do? =(

I believe people have noticed this type of interference due to certain USB devices plugged into the ports. Try removing all the USB devices; does the sound go away?

If so, try different combinations of used ports; and different assignments of devices to ports. Some such configuration will probably solve the problem.

If the interference is due to something else, post back.

It works fine now! =] But this still is rather annoying that if I am transferring data from my portable harddrive, I have to listen to that awful sound through the headphones until it is finished.

Is this common among all laptops, or just ASUS or the G50V?

Thank you for your help though!

Did you try putting the HDD into another port? E.g., farther away from the headphones jack.

I don't remember now what types of computers had this reported, perhaps also the M50.

seems to be more than one model that has reported this I do belive, not sure the exact cause of it. USB voltage maybe tied into the headphones?

I do not think it is something you will fix by getting a new unit, its just a issue you have to deal with. Im guessing since its not all USB devcies its the ones that take the most power that are causing the issues.

On that note tho, I have my Cooling Pad in the left port, and my G7 mouse in the rear port and its not a sound to be heard on mine with my little philips earbuds plugged in.

So that means the power draw of the headphones may matter also (or the impedance) as well as like EBE said maybe the usb port matters too. I do not use the 2 ports on the right because I have my mouse in that area and do not want things sticking out to break my usb port or dongle.

If all else fails you can get some nice bluetooth headphones like I have too :p

I'm having the same problem. It's really annoying! I have the G50V-A1 plugged on a hifi receiver and the high pitched whine is there.

I'm really disappointed at this system. First the random lockups and now this... I mean, I can use my #$%@ mouse and notebook as a theremin!

I'm buying an external sound card. Anyone tried the Turtle Beach Audio Advantage Amigo with this system??

EDIT: Have anyone used the HDMI port to output audio? Does the noise also affects that port?
