The "explosion" sound played during the POST is pretty annoying. But, whenever I turn it off (an option in the BIOS) the laptop's sound doesn't work at all!

I was reading a review and someone mentioned that you can turn off the "Republic of Gamers" screen entirely and that this enable an explosion-less start up as well as properly functioning sound while in Vista. Unfortunately, the user did not mention how to do this and Newegg (the site I read the review on) doesn't allow user-to-user messaging.

Anyone have any ideas on removing the flash screen or just a solution in general to the issue? Thanks a lot!

I can verify this problem, but don't yet have a fix myself. I thought it was odd I wasn't hearing anything, wasn't sure what I had done to get that!

Also make sure you don't disable the BIOS startup sound or you will not get sound in windows. The fix is to turn the volume to 0.

Found this in another thread for us...

I found a fix for this:
You can have POST sound off, but in order to get it working in windows you have t hibernate it and wake it up again or sleep it. I can't remember, the trouble of doing this made me leave it on in the BIOS.

Good to know, that means the startup sound issue is due to an ACPI bug in the BIOS... adds another one to the list
