I was wondering if any other laptop owners mainly ASUS G50VT owners have come across the issue where you plug the laptop power cable in and its says "Plugged in, not charging."

I have done some google searches on this and it bring up a bunch of forums ( http://www.google.com/search?client...q=plugged+in+not+charging&btnG=Google+Search), it sounds like Dell, and HP have the same problem and now ASUS. Anyone have any ideas.

Current ideas range from circuitry design flaw to a vista problem to defective batteries.

Any help on what I can do to fix my ASUS so it stops doing this would be awesome.

It depends... What % is your battery at now?

For example mine is at 99% and says this... Its normal though in that case. Is yours diffrent? Once it hits between 97-100% it wont charge so it does not kill the battery, but if your saying you use the battery than plug in to charge and it does not, than yes thats a problem...

I second this. Unplug it and let it run for an hour then plug it back in. I bet all is well. You will see. No worries. :)

Mines gone down to 86% and still says ths before. If you unplug it, let it run down a % then plug it back in, it charges back up to 100%.

It appears you guys are right. I unplugged it while typing that message plugged it in (it was at 95% when typing the message) and then at 84% when I was done. I plugged it in and it charged.

I did read somewhere that its designed like that to prevent over charging ad battery explosions.

    Thanks for your help

Yea, I think its said that its not good for them to always be charging and on AC power... About once a week I unplug mine and let it drain down the 12%. The rest of the week its normally plugged in and sits at around 98-99%.

In the manual it says that this behavior is by design. Won't charge past 95% to keep from overcharging the battery. Supposed to extend the life by keeping it not fully charged.

    yeah that behavior is normal...

sadly, the battery of my g50vt-x1 stopped charging after a week of getting the laptop. Would not hold anything above 1%... luckily I got a replacement from bestbuy right away.
