After finally pulling my over to the importer I finally got the G50VT... While the performance doesn't dissappoint, well...

I just rid myself of a HP DV5T which had ok sound, also Altec Lansing. Well when I played a song on this machine, I almost got a heart attack. The sound is SCARILY terrible! It sounds almost like I am in a bathroom with the door closed and to add, it sounds far too low too. And DFX 9 doesn't help one bit.

Also, anyone else experiencing trouble with the touch pad? I can move around the cursor but the right and left click doesnt work, sometimes "when it feels like it" it does though. Anyone else got this problem?

And yeah I used the search function already but er... Maybe I just suck at looking >.>. Sorry guys help me out here >.<. Plllleeeaaasseee!

Several new Asus laptops I have seen have the sound set to half volume in the bios by default, including my g50v-a2. Check and see if it's set at 4, max should be 8.

That doesnt affect Windows anyway and yeah it's set to 8 ;). But it still doesnt say why the sound so bleedingly horrible, I mean is the "Altec Lansing", just for show or am I having a defect product?

In my experience, the G50vt speakers are the crispiest speakers I've ever heard on a laptop. That being said, they are also some of the quietest and have a very high cutoff frequency on the low end-- anything below like 200 Hz is inaudible. Which is, you know, dismal. They do hit 20kHz very well for laptop speakers, though.

I can agree with the speakers on the G50 being terrible. You might want to check your Realtek control panel and make sure that no sound effects are enabled... mine doesn't sound like I'm in a bathroom.

They aren't bad for laptop speakers, but laptop speakers are a generally dismal bunch anyways. I recommend a good set of headphones.

My main complaint is the buzzing. Also they sound tinny to my ear, but aren't the worst I've ever heard. Certainly not the best.

Yep, that describes them pretty well.

At least the sound chip itself is decent. I use a pair of Sony professional series headphones and they sound pretty good.

I have no problem with g50vt speakers. they sound very good by comparison. Dvd playback in media player is very low but it is the same story for all realtek chipsets when using power dvd codec

Did you ever try to setup Dolby Control Center ?

Before I didn't setup anything that sound weird.

    After I set by

    1. Check Natural Bass then Max Bass Boost
    2. Uncheck Sound Space Expander

    Sound is much better.

I find my G50 sounds better than my old Dell did, but still sounds better with a pair of headphones. The speakers can be made pretty loud for a laptop and have a crisp sound, just no bass at all. Get a good set of headphones and avoid using the USB port right next to the audio jacks, otherwise you will get a low buzzing sound in your earphones.

Yeah, My G50VT speakers are pretty bad, but It never really affected me as I just put speakers on the desk that it normally resides at. But that's not really a solution since the point of a laptop it portability :)

While not the best speakers in a laptop, the ones in the G50vt aren't anywhere near the worst.

Fiddling with the settings results in pretty decent response considering you are dealing with 15" laptop speakers with no subwoofer.

I agree with kengio... those settings seem optimal.

I think G50 owners should be grateful that there is at least a sound manager for you to tweak your audio settings. Many other manufactures, such as my Dell Precision doesn't offer that feature and are stuck with a very weak multimedia experience. All in all, the G50 speakers are good compared to other notebook speakers. Use your sound manager to adjust the settings to your liking.

I absolutely agree with the speaker quality. When i first retired my HP DV9540 and switched over to the G50Vt, my first reaction was OMG THIS SPEAKER IS TERRIBLE! comparing to the HP. But oh well...what can i do? Asus probably put more resources into the more well performance notebook and cut down on the little things like the speaker.

Same thing with the 2.0webcam that comes with the unit. The quality on the G50VT webcam is significantly inferior comparing to the HP i had. Oh well, its been awhile and i've gotten used to the Asus so i really can't complain much anymore.

I think the MSI gaming units GT627 and GX620 (?) the 15'' with 9800GS has the same problem as well. The speakers on those units aren't great either.

2 things i hate about my G50VT-X1 are the Speakers (Ridiculously Low Volume) and the HORRIBLE screen.(Only G50VT-X1/X5 has this bad screen)

Go into your Realtek Audio HD manager, sound effects tab, and make sure "loudness equalization" is checked. This will about double sound volume.

Beers for Kengio xD <3, the reason for the "bathroom" like sound is because of the default check of Sound Space Expander in the Sound ---> Dolby Settings. Thanks a million Kengio! The sound even with all the suggestions is still ridiculously low but oh well. I wish they would have put in Harman Kardon speakers like Toshiba does with theirs, but oh well you can't have it all can you?

You would need to RMA your notebook if that's the case. Double check to see if it's not your sound board or a driver issue by plugging in a pair of headphones or external speakers. Also check if it works in safe mode.

Btw, when I got my G1S I had the bathroom sound, it was exactly like de-phased speakers (one is beating in the opposite direction of the other)...I just rotated the left speaker's wires...now it doesn't sound like in the bathroom...more like in the lady's room...still a laptop sound eh :D

The strange thing is many Chinese branded phones have way better sound (even in stereo) with some cheap small-sized internal speakers, but laptops still sound cr*ppy

I spoke with ASUS a while back. I'll be shipping it back this May or June for repair.

Not sure what caused it but it happened about a month after purchase.

It definitely was not a driver issue. Headphones and external speakers function just fine. What told me it was truly dead was when the POST sound failed to resound from the left speaker.

Yeah, you gotta set the bass setting in the Dolby tab of the sound properties. The Sound Expander thing just makes it sound bad. And the Realtek control panel has that Loudness Equalizer that makes it sound much louder. Before setting that, PROTOTYPE was really quiet, but after checking it, its loud enough.
